Sir Cliff Richard reveals battle with prostate cancer

This morning, the singer told Good Morning Britain (GMB) he has been diagnosed and hopes to encourage other people to get tested.

This comes after King Charles III addressed the nation last week, discussing his progress on his own cancer journey.

Sir Cliff said he would like to work with the King to raise awareness and encourage people to get tested, helping them get early diagnoses.

When to see your GP about cancer

The Sun reports that Sir Cliff said the cancer was found “early” during a check-up before his recent tour.

He said: “The cancer’s gone at the moment. I don’t know whether it’s going to come back.

“We can’t tell those sort of things but we need, absolutely, I’m convinced, get there, get tested, get checked.”

Sir Cliff continued to tell GMB journalist Dermot Murnaghan this morning: “I was about to embark on a tour which in fact ended this time at the Royal Albert Hall.

“But I was going to Australia and to New Zealand and the promoter said, ‘Well we need for your insurance, you need to be checked up for something.’

“They found that I had prostate cancer. But the good fortune was that it was not very old and the other thing is that it has not metastasized. Nothing had moved into bones or anything like that.”

Charles announced in a video message on Friday that his cancer treatment is being reduced in the new year, adding the “good news” was down to early diagnosis, successful care and following “doctors’ orders”.

The head of state, who has been receiving cancer treatment as an outpatient since early February 2024, also urged millions to take up available screenings for the disease.

Charles said: “Early diagnosis quite simply saves lives.

“Now, I have heard this message repeatedly during my visits to cancer centres across the country.

“I know, too, what a difference it has made in my own case, enabling me to continue leading a full and active life, even while undergoing treatment.

“Indeed, today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders’, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the new year.”
