A Cambridgeshire zoo has welcomed a new addition to the animal family. Vee and Mr Snuffles, both sloths at Hamerton Zoo near Sawtry, welcomed their fourth baby on November 18.

This time, the pair welcomed a female sloth. A zoo spokesperson said it “looks like we will be getting ‘slow’ this Christmas ”, with sloths being notoriously slow.

For the next few months, mother Vee will carry her baby until she is able to venture off for herself. The Hamerton spokesperson added: “Mr Snuffles is the second oldest sloth in the UK, at the grand age of 35 years. As the median life expectancy of Two-toed Sloths is 15, he is clearly doing very well!

“Despite his age, he is happy to carry the baby too to give mum a break when she needs it.”

This is the fifth baby to be born at Hamerton within the last four years. The sloth’s name is due to be announced.
