The Bruce family were left devastated by the death of baby Madison last October at the age of four months but Steve’s daughter Amy has now given birth to baby Beau
Steve Bruce has celebrated the arrival of grandchild following the heartbreaking death of his grandson in October last year.
The veteran manager and the whole Bruce family were left devastated after the passing of baby Madison, who died suddenly at the age of just four months. Now, Steve’s daughter, Amy, has just given birth to a son named Beau with her husband, the former Fulham and Leeds striker Matt Smith. They also have a son, Lennon.
Amy’s brother Alex, 41, who played for the likes of Birmingham and Hull and is now a first-team coach at Salford City, broke the news on his Instagram with the message: “Welcome to the world my new little nephew Beau xx”.
Steve confessed earlier this year that he felt about calling time on his life in football as he dealt with the family tragedy. He and Alex did step back from their roles at their respective clubs in light of Madison’s passing. Steve did eventually return to the Blackpool dugout as manager, but was axed in October.
He has told the Athletic: “There were times when I thought about not coming back. I’m sure people would’ve totally understood but sometimes football has given me a little bit of an escape from it all.

“It’s been the tragedy of all tragedies. Anyone going through the same sort of grief, I feel for them. It’s horrendous that a fine, young, healthy, baby boy doesn’t wake up one morning. We’ll never come to terms with that. It’s agony. Was it a sidetrack to the grief? Possibly. The people here, who I work for, were fabulous and I didn’t want to let them down. They told me to take my time. I was away for a month or five weeks, whatever it was.”
After Madison’s death a woman in her 40s, who was working as a nanny, was arrested on suspicion of child neglect. However detectives later ruled it an accident and ended the investigation.
Greater Manchester Police said: “While the circumstances are tragic, we don’t believe any criminality was linked to this death.”
Steve has maintained that “there’s still not a day where it doesn’t affect you”. He said: “Anyone going through the same sort of grief, I feel for them. It’s horrendous that a fine, young, healthy baby boy doesn’t wake up one morning.
