Stone Roses bassist Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield dies aged 63
The beloved musician rose to fame after joining The Stone Roses in the 1980s.
In a post on X this afternoon, Gary’s nephew posted a heartbreaking tribute. In it, he said he would now be ‘reunited in heaven with his wife’ Imelda, who passed away in 2023.
He wrote: “Unfortunately with sad news my uncle Gary Mani Mounfield from the stone roses has sadly passed away today.
“Thinking of his twins and my uncle Greg at this sad time. He will be reunited in heaven with his lovely wife Imelda RIP Manni Your annoying nephew.”

In a post on Facebook his brother Greg wrote: “IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID.”
Playing on both of the band’s albums, Mounfield was in the Stone Roses until they disbanded in 1996, later joining Primal Scream. In 2011, he announced that he had left Primal Scream to reform the Stone Roses.

Tributes have since been flooding in across the music world after the announcement of his death was made on Thursday (November 20).
One fan wrote on X: “R.I.P Mani …… absolute legend of the Manchester music scene”
Another commented: “RIP to a true legend of the Manchester music scene, Gary Mani Mounfield”
Someone else wrote: “Sad sad news, another legend lost. RIP Mani”
Whilst another said: “Gary “Mani” Manfield Shake Heaven with them Bass Licks .. Rip to a Manchester True Legend . Such sad news”
