Strictly Come Dancing fans were left making the same complaint as they pointed out the same detail about George Clarke’s position in the competition.

The YouTube star was seen back in the ballroom on Saturday night (December 6) after he and his professional dance partner Alexis Warrmade it through to the quarter-final stage of the BBC One dance contest.

First, George and Alexis were seen alongside their fellow quarter-finalists opening the show in a musical-themed dance relay for the show’s Musicals Week special. The five-minute moment was choreographed by Matt Flint, which started and finished with all five couples dancing together.

It was then the couple’s turn to take to the floor with their main routine, marking the first time they were first out during a live show, With the final now in sight, with George, who admitted to not being a fan of musicals, and performing an Argentine tango to The Point Of No Return from The Phantom Of The Opera with Alexis.

George, 26, who wore a half mask and puffy shirt, was told his dance was “sensational” by judge Motis Mabuse, who also said the performance “set the tone” for the night, while Shirley Ballas said she loved “the whole ambience of it”.

But Strictly fans were quick to complaint about some of the judges’ response to the routine, considering a difficult song choice, as well as thinking they missed out some of the parts George did well as they praised some of his moves, as well as his acting as a non-performer and actor.

@zawnlis said: “Wow George. A non actor and never danced a step before and produced that performance with Alexis with 4 days prep. I’m blown away. Stunning. All our votes tonight. You’ve earned a place in the SF. Fab u lous darlings!” @asainsbury75 commented: “Can we just comment on George’s amazing lunges with leg out to the side- which no judge commented on.”

@star6sleeper wrote: “Only non dancer left and he produces that dance! Difficult music but they smashed it!” sashalouise19 posted: “So so proud of George, he’s a non actor and never done a musical. He absolutely smashed it.” @frayawrenc shared: “UNDERSCORED. Should have had 40. Loved this so much and the choreo and partnership is brilliant. @georgeclarkeey did brilliant embodying the character.”

@books_and_coffee93 typed: “How did you guys not get 40? This was spectacular! It was the only dance of the night to give me goosebumps!!” @ellie20107 added: “That was epic should of scored higher in my opinion because George you delivered that was amazing.”

It comes after George took to social media following the show to reflect on his performance and thank those watching for supporting him. He shared on X (formerly Twitter): “That was such a challenge but I hope you can see just how much we put into that and how much I tried to do the Phantom of the Opera justice.

“I have really been enjoying my time, the last few weeks especially as I’ve began to fully embrace every aspect. Each week we encounter a new challenge and are trying to show a bit of versatility by conquering each one. I didn’t think I’d enjoy dancing and this show quite as much as I do and I would love to have the ability to continue that for as long as possible. Thankyou each and every one of you for the kind words and support, love you all x.”
