Strictly star reveals ‘soul-destroying’ loss of second child after miscarriage
Scarlett Moffatt has shared that she suffered a late miscarriage after welcoming her son Jude.
The TV personality, 35, rose to fame when appearing alongside her parents on Gogglebox from 2014 until 2017. In the years since she’s gone on to win I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and present on Saturday Night Takeaway.
Earlier this week she also won the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special alongside professional partner Vito Coppola.
But away from screens, in recent years Scarlett has also been growing her family – giving birth to her son in June 2023.
However, Scarlett has now revealed that while she and partner Scott Dobinson, 37, had initially planned to have more children, a miscarriage changed her mind.

‘We tried, and it just wasn’t…’ she explained in a recent interview.
‘We had a miscarriage after Jude. It happened quite late on. We had told people [about the pregnancy] and we were really excited.
‘We had talked about what life would be like, how they would run down the stairs together as siblings at Christmas, so you mourn the loss of that and the life you imagined,’ she added when speaking to The Sun.
However, she continued: ‘It’s weird because they weren’t there, but in your thoughts they were. So, it was really hard.’
When lying in bed one day, Scarlett recalled telling her partner that she ‘can’t handle the heartbreak anymore’ and they should ‘stop’ any attempts to expand their family. At the time she told Scott: ‘We’ve got Jude, so let’s enjoy him.’
Speaking about other families who experience pregnancy loss, Scarlett said her hear ‘broke’ for them.
‘I just think it’s so brave when people then continue the journey because it is soul-destroying. And I think it’s really strong people who can cope. It was awful on my body, too. So, we made the decision to just enjoy having Jude,’ she went on.
In the interview Scarlett discussed making the decision to take some time off work to ‘focus on being a mum’ after her son was born.
After waiting over three years to get pregnant, Scarlett said she wanted to ‘soak it all in’ and spend as much time as possible with Jude.
That resulted in her taking a two-year break from TV. While she once ‘used to get funny about being called a reality star’, as she wanted to be seen as a ‘proper presenter’, Scarlett said she was no longer concerned about the label.
When announcing the birth of her son on social media, Scarlett shared a photo of him with the message: ‘My darling boy I can’t stop crying looking at you as I can’t quite believe you’re mine.
‘You wanted to meet us early at just 35 weeks. Me & your daddy love you so much that I can’t even put this feeling into words. Our heart and soul feels complete & ready to burst. I will forever and always be grateful to be your mammy.’
She added: ‘I can’t thank @scottdobby enough & to the midwives Helen & Charlotte & all of the NHS team at Durham Hospital. You will all forever hold a special place in my heart for looking after us all with such compassion. Let the baby bubble commence 💙’
Scarlett previously shared that she and Scott had known each other since she was 17, but he came back into her life at a time when she had sworn herself off men after having her heart broken many times.
They did briefly split in March 2021, but the separation didn’t last long – only two days.
About six months after welcoming Jude, the couple then got engaged. They are set to get married in June next year.
