The actress and West End star hasn’t been having the easiest of times following her continued journey in the BBC dance show
Amber Davies has been given a major boost she says she ‘didn’t expect’ away from the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom.
While loving her time on the hit BBC One dance show, the actress and West End star hasn’t been having the easiest of times as she suffers backlash in response to keeping her place in the competition as the show reaches the semi-final stage this Saturday (December 13).
Fans of the popular programme saw Amber and her professional partner Nikita Kuzmin go up against actor Lewis Cope and his pro dance partner Katya Jones in the latest dreaded dance-off during Sunday’s (December 7) results show, with a place in the penultimate week of the competition at stake.
After both couples had reprised their performances from Saturday night’s (December 6) Musicals Week special, the judges unanimously voted to save Amber and Nikita, leaving Lewis and Katya having to say their goodbyes, which came as a huge shock to Strictly fans.
But after the pre-recorded launch show aired, Amber found herself issuing a plea. She said: “Guys, please… It’s really just a television show. I wasn’t even supposed to be in the comp,” Amber commented. “You have no idea what we put our mind and body through for this experience.. I’m really just trying my best with the opportunity that came to me. To anyone who has left a NICE comment, thank you.”
Lewis has also asked people to be kind, after he saw the response Amber was getting. He wrote under one of her Instagram posts: “You are incredible and have been such a good friend from day one. Please people don’t spread hate and negativity. This goes against everything we are about. It’s a TV show and we all need to look after each other. Big love Amber.”
Now, Amber is trying to move on from the backlash and had some exciting news to share on Thursday (December 11). It was announced that she has been nominated for a WhatsOnStage award.
She has landed a nod in the Best Supporting Performer in a Musical category for playing Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby. It puts her up against friend, and Nikita’s former dance partner, Layton Williams, who is nominated for his role in Titanique.
Sharing the news on Instagram, the 27-year-old shared: “Ph my goodness I did NOT expect this today. Thank you so much @whatsonstage for the Nom & to everyone who voted! To even be considered next to the icons in this category is an absolute HONOUR. I’m actually speechless.
“Wow wow wow. Congrats to my @ldngatsby family for the rest of the incredible noms!!! [crying and face holding back tears emojis]. if anyone fancies voting for Jordy B, I’ve put the link in my bio.” She also shared the post to her Instagram Story and said: “Oh my gosh. Guys what!!!! I’m crying. Thank you [crying emoji].”
Nikita was quick to respond with a string of clapping emojis, while Layton, who made it to the Strictly final with Nikita in 2023, quipped: “I’ll vote for you, if you vote for me [eyes emoji].” Former Strictly winner and theatre star Ore Oduba also gushed: “BABEEEEEEEEE WTAF!!?” while Great Gatsby co-star Rachel Tucker added: “Omg congratulations baby!!!!”
