It came as Katya and Lewis Cope had another impressive weekend in the ballroom during week ten of the BBC One dance contest
Katya Jones has told her fans how the ‘tables turned’ for her over the weekend as she and Lewis Cope got some new dance partners that Strictly Come Dancing fans didn’t see.
The pair had another impressive weekend in the ballroom having made it through to week ten of the BBC One dance contest following the show’s annual Blackpool special.
Saturday night’s (November 29) live show started as normal, with each couple performing their choreographed dances, with actor Lewis and professional dancer Katya Jones dancing a rumba to Harry Styles’ Falling, for which they received 36 points from the judges.
It was then, towards the end of the show, after each couple had performed their choreographed dance, they returned to the dancefloor to learn what dance they would have to perform and the accompanying music for the Instant Dance challenge.
The mystery dance tested their knowledge, as it was one that they learned over the course of the competition and was revealed in an envelope which they picked out last week but did not open until the live show.
They were then given 15 seconds to pick a costume, quickly change backstage, and then given just ten seconds to decide how they were going to perform the 40-second dance routine, which the judges watched before awarding the couples points from one to six.
Head judge Shirley said it was a very close call for first place, but gave the win to Lewis and Katya, who “took chances” on their jive, winning six additional points, which put them at the top of the leaderboard, after the latest scores were added to those from the previous weekend due to no elimination taking place.
Now, Katya has revealed that her latest weekend was extra special, and not just in the Strictly ballroom. Sharing pictures of her and Lewis with her mum, as well as her own dance partner, the dancer said: “There was more than one dancing partnerships last weekend.
“Mum and dad tend to visit me at least once during my Strictly season every year. This time the spotlight was not on me. She flew over for her own dance competition. For those of you that don’t know, my mama started dancing Argentine Tango 6 years ago, and is competing on a high level now.
“She manage to win gold in Milonga ( one of the disciplines in Argentine Tango) last Sunday and I can’t tell you how proud I felt. She is such a beautiful dancer. And for those who naturally would think she’s inspired by me, let me tell you – seeing her talent I understand now, that it was me, who’s been following her footsteps all along. Beautiful weekend full of dance, love and family.”
It came after Katya had shared a picture of her mum and her dance partner to her Instagram Story and said: “Yesterday roles reversed. I went to watch my mama dance @kimtospb. With her dance partner @damian_tango she won gold in Tango Milonga. And I can’t tell you how proud I felt.”
