Sunderland-based radiologist could be struck off medical register

Sunderland-based clinical radiologist Dr Alaaedin Kamel has been suspended for the past month, following a ten-month period when his licence to practice was removed, pending the outcome of the Medical Practitioners’ Tribunal (MPT) hearing.

The hearing, starting tomorrow (Monday, January 5), will inquire into the allegation that, on or around December 9, 2023, Dr Kamel submitted a form to University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust which contained dishonest information.

It is also alleged that Dr Kamel fabricated reports, dated between October 2024 and October 2025, purporting to be from an unnamed doctor, termed “Dr A”, and sent those reports to the General Medical Council (GMC) to be used at his next Interim Orders Tribunal hearing.

A further allegation will suggest that Dr Kamel knew that “Dr A” had not provided the reports, he had breached one of the conditions imposed on his registration by submitting fabricated reports and that his actions were dishonest.

Parts of the case are expected to be heard in private, in line with GMC (Fitness to Practice) regulations.

The virtual hearing has a seven-day time estimate, with the outcome to be published online within 28 days of its conclusion.

Dr Kamel qualified from an Egyptian university in 2006 and has been registered with a specialty in clinical radiology since 2015, with a licence to practice since August 2017.
