It can be returned for a full refund

Tesco has announced a recall for a well-liked party snack amid fears it could present a “possible health risk” to those with allergies. Tesco‘s six Aubergine Katsu Bao Buns have been discovered to contain milk that wasn’t listed on the packaging, potentially triggering reactions in anyone with a milk allergy or intolerance.

Approximately one in 50 infants experience cow’s milk allergies, though the majority grow out of this condition during their younger years. As many as one in 10 adults are believed to be lactose intolerant, meaning their bodies struggle to process the sugar present in dairy products.

The recall covers Tesco’s six Aubergine Katsu Bao Buns sold in 258g packages with use-by dates up to and including December 13, reports the Express. A statement from Tesco said: “If you have purchased the affected date code of the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, please return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required.”

The Food Standards Agency confirmed that Tesco had reached out to relevant allergy support organisations to inform their members about the recall. Signs of a milk allergy include hives, swelling, vomiting, and breathing problems, which usually manifest within minutes of consuming the product.

Allergic reactions can often be managed with antihistamine medications and by steering clear of dairy products. In severe instances, milk exposure may lead to life-threatening anaphylaxis. Signs of anaphylaxis encompass respiratory difficulties like wheezing, throat constriction and rapid breathing, skin alterations, and circulatory issues leading to light-headedness and potential fainting.

Whilst it’s possible for milk allergies to manifest unexpectedly in adults, such instances are extremely uncommon, Allergy UK says.
