Tesco superstore Ripon to open later this week with The Yorkshire Vet
Tesco will open its new Tesco Superstore in Ripon on Thursday (November 20) at 8am, with special guest Julian Norton, the Yorkshire Vet.
The store opens just in time to support Tesco’s Winter Food Collection in partnership with FareShare and Trussell Trust.
From November 27 to 29, customers are encouraged to donate long-life food items that the charities then distribute to the local area to tackle increased demand through the winter months.
It was announced previously that the supermarket giant would be moving into the site of the former Booths shop on Marshall Way in Ripon.
Booths had been in the city for 16 years before revealing it would be departing Ripon earlier this year.
Since its closure, Booths has been steadily transformed into Tesco, which includes the car park area of the shop and contractors seen working inside and outside the building on Marshall Way.
Looking forward, the store will continue to play an important role in Ripon through community programmes, Stronger Starts and Community Food Connection.
Stronger Starts provides funding for charities and community groups supporting children, young people and families with grants of £1,500, £1,000 and £500 available every quarter, with the amounts awarded through customers’ votes using blue tokens in store.
Since its launch in 2015, the Community Food Connection Scheme has also donated more than 220 million meals to local charities across the UK.
Last month, it was unveiled that the manager of the new store is Richard Butcher, who until recently has been working for Tesco in York.
Until taking up his new role in August, he was a convenience store manager for Tesco in Low Ousegate, York.
Before that, Richard was a lead manager at Tesco Clifton Moor. He has worked for the supermarket giant since 2011, with other roles with Tesco around Yorkshire, Lancashire and the North East.
Mr Butcher said: “We are extremely excited to be opening our new store and helping to serve the local community. We want to offer great value to our customers and the benefits of Tesco Clubcard and Clubcard Prices.
“Colleagues have moved across from the old store and have brought such great experience and local knowledge.”
The new store is located at Marshall Way, Ripon, HG4 2BT and will open Monday to Saturday 7am to 10pm, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
