Tesla’s Model Y Performance offers supercar-style acceleration
At the heart of this evolution is an upgraded battery pack, featuring new high-density cells that deliver more energy without adding weight. The result? A car that combines supercar-level acceleration with everyday usability and class-leading efficiency.
With 460 horsepower on tap, the Model Y Performance rockets from 0–60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and pushes on to a top speed of 155 mph. These figures would be impressive for any sports car, let alone a family-friendly SUV. Yet what truly sets this Tesla apart is its ability to pair that blistering performance with a WLTP range of 360 miles and an energy consumption of just 26.07 kWh per 100 miles. In short, this is one of the most efficient performance EVs you can buy today.

The experience behind the wheel matches the numbers. Tesla’s latest Performance 4DU drive unit, first introduced in the Model 3 Performance, delivers 16% more peak torque and 32% more peak power than before, while maintaining thermal stability for sustained high-speed runs. It feels relentless in its acceleration, yet never harsh or unpredictable. The surge of power is instant and linear, reminding you why electric performance cars have changed the game.
But speed is only part of the story. Tesla has worked hard to make sure the Model Y Performance feels composed in all conditions. Borrowing adaptive suspension technology from the Model 3 Performance, the system uses a new control algorithm to continuously adjust damping in real time. The result is a ride that feels supple and refined during everyday driving, yet taut and responsive when you want to push harder. Switch to Sport mode and the car tightens up noticeably, with sharper steering and reduced body roll, while still adapting to rougher surfaces. For those who want even more engagement, Stability Assist can be dialed back to allow a little more freedom without compromising safety.

The chassis has been reworked to match the powertrain’s capabilities. New springs, stabiliser bars and bushings combine with upgraded knuckles and refined suspension geometry to deliver precise steering and predictable handling. Improvements to the rear body structure increase torsional stiffness, giving the car a planted feel even when cornering. It’s clear Tesla has spent time fine-tuning this car on demanding roads and tracks, and the effort shows.
Visually, the Model Y Performance signals its intent without resorting to gimmicks. The new front and rear fascias, carbon-fiber spoiler and glossy black accents give it a purposeful stance, while the 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 forged wheels add drama and functionality. These wheels, paired with staggered tires, not only enhance grip but also contribute to improved efficiency and a quieter ride. Performance red brake calipers peek through the spokes, a subtle nod to the car’s capabilities.
Inside, the cabin remains true to Tesla’s minimalist philosophy but adds touches that elevate the experience. First-row performance seats with enhanced bolsters and powered thigh cushion extenders provide excellent lateral support without sacrificing comfort. Carbon-fibre trim inserts and aluminium pedals reinforce the sporty theme, while the panoramic glass roof and acoustic glazing keep the cabin bright.

Dominating the dashboard is an all-new 16-inch touchscreen with thinner bezels and a higher-resolution display that offers nearly 80% more pixels than before. The interface feels sharper and more immersive, making everything from navigation to drive mode adjustments a seamless experience. Rear passengers benefit from an 8-inch display for climate and entertainment controls, plus power-reclining seats for added comfort.
What makes the Model Y Performance so compelling is its dual personality. It’s a car that can deliver adrenaline-charged acceleration and track-ready handling, yet still handle the school run or a long motorway trip with ease. It offers generous cargo space, advanced safety features and the convenience of Tesla’s charging network.
