While many UK gamers now get their fix via consoles and mobile phones, more than 10 million of us (according to Statista) prefer PC and laptop gaming.
But given the length of time one can spend in front of a screen, it’s important to find the a gaming chair to support your posture. “Inactivity is the real danger, sitting still for long periods with all your focus on the action in front of you,” warns Catherine Quinn, former President of the British Chiropractic Association (BCA.)
“Good gaming chairs are designed to give support to your lower back and neck area, and it’s vital you use all the adjustments provided,” she adds. This will not only up your game, but could help you avoid back and neck pain too.

I asked Mads ‘Broxah’ Brock-Pedersen, former professional League of Legends eSports player turned tournament analyst, what qualities I should be looking for in a gaming chair.
“The most important thing is to choose a chair that’s been ergonomically designed to offer proper lumbar support,” Brock-Pedersen says. “Adjustable armrests and a comfortable headrest also help maintain good posture during long sessions. His chosen chair? A Secretlab style, which was often used for League Of Legends tournaments.
A high backrest is also key to support your spine and neck. If you’re on the taller side, you might want to consider an extendable model. Similarly, your feet should rest flat on the floor with your knees at 90 degrees, so choose a chair that accommodates your height and leg length.
Other considerations include whether or not the chair offers a recline function for comfortable breaks, weight capacities or wider seats, especially if you like to sit cross-legged, a strong frame material (steel and aluminium will last longer than plastic,) high density foam to maintain its shape and material choices: leather is wipe clean but traps heat, while mesh will encourage airflow.
