Cambridgeshire is full of many scenic places that wouldn’t look out of place as the scene of a Christmas card. A small village on the edge of Cambridge that is usually associated with an ITV crime drama is one place that can look so picturesque it could be on cards.

The picturesque village of Grantchester is full of tree-lined streets and stunning homes that create a Christmassy scene and adds an extra level of charm to the place. It is a village full of history and is notable for a number of things. More recently, the area is famously known for the Grantchester TV series on ITV.

However, it was also a place where Rupert Brooke, an English poet known for his war sonnets, stayed and wrote poetry. It was also the home of novelist and politician Jeffrey Archer and has the highest population of Nobel Prize winners in the world.

For music fans, it was also the inspiration behind Pink Floyd’s song ‘Grantchester Meadows’. As well as idyllic streets, Grantchester is also full of green meadows that provide the perfect opportunity for a cute walk, especially over Christmas time. The River Cam flows through the village, so people can take a winter punt along the river.

This cute tearoom is described as a “coroner of England where time stands still as the outside rushes by”, as stated on the Orchard Garden website. It has been an “essential part of Cambridge life” for over 125 years.

The famous establishment serves a range of hot drinks, including tea and coffee, as well as light lunches and sweet treats. It is also available for weddings and parties.
