Ahead of the soaring sentimentality of The Scythe – a song partly written about the death of Morris’ father – the singer admits that she’s been struggling not to cry whilst performing it on tour; later, she reminds the crowd of their Ribbons for Provisions initiative, which has so far raised £35,000 for food banks. For a band who started off being called industry plants, and who’ve levelled criticisms from poshness to performativity, it’s distinctly more human and likable than most outfits who parade their supposed ‘authenticity’ around far more aggressively.
