Murderers sent to prison in 2025 include a “jealous man soaked in self pity” who killed his former partner, her sister and their mother. Another man was finally brought to justice after cutting a pensioner’s throat and setting fire to her clothes 12 years ago.

Karl Hutchings

Karl Hutchings, 48, of The Hill in Christchurch, admitted killing 55-year-old Julie Buckley on September 15. The police believe he killed Julie on January 30 and then used her bank cards and sold her possessions.

Julie Buckley’s body had not been found when Hutchings admitted murder. However, human remains discovered off Blue Lane in Wimblington were confirmed to belong to the 55-year-old on September 24.

His sentencing date has not yet been confirmed.

Jordan Neale

After murdering a fellow inmate in a row over vapes, Neale, 27, told a friend he had “f*cked up and killed someone”. His three punches in a cell at HMP Peterborough had left 42-year-old Gareth Jones unconscious on July 12, 2024.

He was found guilty of murder by a jury following a 10-day trial at the court in February.

Jonathon Austin

Austin, 23, strangled a former flatmate to death over a row about a passport. He will spend at least 16 years in prison after murdering 38-year-old Neil Lakhani on September 17, 2024.

The killer, of Greengates Court, Histon Road, Cambridge, denied murder but was found guilty in April 2025 following a trial at Huntingdon Law Courts. On June 6, he was jailed for life at the same court, and told he will serve a minimum of 16 years.

Shwan Sabah

Shwan Sabah, 24, killed a young father by ramming him off his bike with his car. Along with Ako Mohammad, who was jailed for manslaughter, he left 19-year-old Ben Procter to die of his injuries before calling emergency services.

After killing Mr Proctor on September 15, 2024, Sabah, of Holdich Street, Peterborough, was jailed for life for murder at Cambridge Crown Court on July 11, 2025. He will serve a minimum of 20 years for murder; 11 years, to run concurrently, for false imprisonment, and two-and-a-half years, to run concurrently, for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
