The farm shop was named as one of the best in 2025.
A small village in the Cambridgeshire countryside is home to an award-winning farm shop, zoo and tearoom. Nestled only five miles from Huntingdon is a family-run farm that has been a family-favourite day out for many years.
This is of course Johnson’s of Old Hurst, run by four generations of farmers. Originally running as a dairy farm, Johnson’s legacy has expanded over decades to become a diverse establishment.
Today, it runs an award-winning farm shop, butchers, tearoom, steak house and zoo. Earlier this year, its farm shop was named as one of the best in Suffolk and Cambridgeshire in the Muddy Stilettos awards.
This win was “wonderful” for the shop, as Ellie Burgess, marketing and events manager at Johnson’s previously told CambridgeshireLive. They were “truly astounded and grateful” for the win. The farm shop is described as a “one-stop destination” by Johnson’s with its wide range of products.
It includes produce from its “renowned” butchery, and also sells fresh fruit and vegetables, sweet treats, gifts, children’s toys and much more. Anyone of any age can enjoy a full day out at Johnson’s, as it is not only the award-winning farm shop people can visit.
The zoo at Johnson’s is home to more than 100 animals, including African lions, crocodiles, sloth bears, capybaras and many more animals to discover. Visitors can wander around to see the animals, or if they want a more exciting experience, they can get up close and personal with some animals.
Johnson’s offers a range of experiences, including being able to feed the crocodiles and lions. After a long walk around the zoo, visitors can sit down and relax at the tearoom, known as The Eccentric Englishman.
There are a range of scrumptious goods on offer including cake and cream tea. Visitors can also enjoy a hearty breakfast at the tearoom. If visitors are feeling something a bit more filling, they can visit Johnson’s steakhouse. It serves locally sourced and farm fresh meat on the menu including chicken and cow.
There is also an afternoon tea, dessert and drinks menu on offer. Anyone who would like to find out more about Johnson’s can visit its website.
