It’s the best treat to save for the end of a refreshing stroll

There’s nothing quite like a winter walk, but at this time of year you definitely need to find somewhere to warm up. Sometimes that might mean stopping off for a coffee but we can go one step further with a top class restaurant.

Here in Cambridgeshire we’re lucky to have Prévost, a restaurant listed in the Michelin guide. The restaurant says it showcases modern British cuisine with a creative twist.

The restaurant is in the small village of Wansford, just outside Peterborough. Despite being just outside of a large city, Wansford is surrounded by stunning countryside with many footpaths and routes that walkers can take to enjoy meadows, farmland and rivers. The small village is perhaps most famous for its old Historic England protected bridge that runs over the River Nene.

You can either start your day with a meal at the restaurant in Great North Road in The Haycock Hotel or use it as a treat when you finish. The restaurant has the 3 Rosette Award for Culinary Excellence and has won a Michelin award.

The Rosette Award is handed out to restaurants that deserve local and national recognition and Prevost has been praised for its “polished and attentive” service. The restaurant is also included in the prestigious Michelin Guide.

Prevost is directly beside Wansford Old Bridge which has a footpath that will take you across meadows and a lock to Yarwell. Simply cross the bridge from the restaurant and head to the left where you will find a sign for a public footpath with a gate.

Most of the walk runs through the water meadows of the river Nene along the Nene Way, amongst lovely rural villages and winds around in a circular route. The walk will also pass Nene Valley Railway’s Wansford Station where you could spot a historic steam train chugging through.

The Nene Way will eventually return you to the Church side of Wansford’s Old Bridge after about two hours, where you can cross and return to Prevost for a great meal.
