A police investigation has been launched. This follows a substation fire earlier in the week, which caused power cuts to homes and the primary school.
Thieves took cabling from emergency generators powering homes and a school in Northstowe during the early hours of Thursday morning (November 27). This comes after a fire at an electricity substation on Monday evening (November 24), which caused a power cut to homes and Northstowe Primary School.
Cambridgeshire Police has launched an investigation. A spokesperson for the force said: “Police have launched an investigation following the theft of a large quantity of cabling from emergency generators being used to provide power to homes and the school in Northstowe.
“The force was contacted just after midnight with reports of suspicious activity in the area. Officers and the dog unit attended but no arrests have been made.
“This latest incident follows on from a fire which took place at the electricity substation on Monday evening, the cause of which is being investigated by Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue. Anyone with information is asked to contact police, quoting reference 35/89733/25.”
After closing on Wednesday (November 26) due to the power cut, Northstowe Primary School confirmed it was open as usual on Thursday. In a statement on its website, a spokesperson for the school said: “Our Northstowe site team has worked diligently to restore full functionality, and a larger, fully operational generator is now in place.”
