The star from ITV’s This Morning saw their weight drop to just 6st 10lbs

A well-known personality from ITV’s This Morning has opened up about a frightening health crisis that saw his weight plummet to just over six stone. The money-saving guru, beloved by audiences for his budget-friendly advice, has now disclosed the hidden medical battle he was waging away from the cameras.

Jordan Cox – recognised by millions as the Coupon Kid – detailed how his Crohn’s disease unexpectedly deteriorated, sparking a severe and alarming weight drop that prompted doctors to intervene urgently.

The chronic condition, which triggers significant inflammation in sections of the digestive system, has already resulted in two surgical procedures. Jordan described the alarming moment he was taken to hospital, sharing on the Crohn’s & Colitis UK podcast: “I got admitted into hospital. I was six stone ten in weight. I was about six foot three, six foot four.”

He noted that photographs from that time continue to disturb him: “There are pictures of me in hospital and I still look back on it now, thinking like ‘what on Earth?’”

Medical professionals informed him that an operation was essential but couldn’t proceed until he put on weight. “They basically said to me you need some surgery to get rid of your diseased bowel but we can’t do it while you’re so skinny,” he recalled, reports the Express.

To help him recover, clinicians administered TPN – Total Parenteral Nutrition – connecting him to a continuous nutritional drip. “So they put me on something called TPN… and I was attached to a bag of nutrient feeding for 24 hours a day,” he explained.

Jordan also disclosed that he was initially placed on a “nil by mouth” regime, making even the tiniest hint of flavour a significant milestone.

“It got to a point and it was my favourite day when I was in there, they said ‘really good news, we’re going to allow you to have liquids but only short amounts, only very small amounts.’”.

“What they did is get a sponge on a stick and they dipped it in a tea and if you brush this on your tongue you’ll be fine. It was the first taste of flavour I had in such a long time.”

Supporters inundated him with encouraging messages following the heartfelt revelation. One commented: “You go Jordan.”

Another responded: “Aw you are so kind to share your story with such warmth and laughter. I also suffer from colitis and have recently spent two months in hospital. I hope I can talk about it with laughter like you at some point.”

Jordan has previously been candid about maintaining productivity during extended hospital admissions. Whilst undergoing treatment at Basildon Hospital in 2018, he told The Sun: “Two weeks in, I wasn’t coping well and I was feeling really down.

“I was just sitting there watching TV and doing nothing.

“I needed to make this time count and I decided to turn it around and do something worthwhile instead.”

He continued: “The goal was to make the best out of a bad situation and I think I have.”

Staying true to character, he managed to earn approximately £1,000 through reselling and comping activities – and even completed writing his own advice book.
