Steffan Pattie strangled his pregnant partner, assaulted her in front of children and bragged to a neighbour “she’s my bird, I’ll do what I want.”

A brute who strangled his pregnant partner and later bragged to a neighbour, “She’s my bird, I’ll do what I want,” has been jailed for two years.

Steffan Pattie, 28, was sentenced to 24 months at Preston Crown Court after admitting strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, battery and criminal damage. The court heard he became increasingly “abusive and violent” after beginning a relationship with the victim in December 2020.

In one incident in 2023, while the woman was pregnant, Pattie forced her to the floor and strangled her with both hands. After the baby was born, he repeatedly insulted her and blamed her if the child fell ill.

On another occasion, the victim returned home to find one of the children crying while Pattie played Xbox; the child had not been fed for five hours. When she confronted him, he kicked her to the ground and punched her in the face.

In August 2025, during an argument over their dog, Pattie headbutted her in the back garden—an attack witnessed by a neighbour and their child, the Mirror reports. The court heard he shouted, “She’s my bird, I will do what I want,” before allegedly threatening her with a kitchen knife and warning: “If you don’t open the door I’m going to stab you up.” He then entered the house and caused further damage.

Aggravating factors included the domestic setting, the strangulation while the victim was pregnant, and the presence of children during the violence.

Although the victim said she did not want him jailed, as it would cause further issues for the children at a “critical age of development”, Recorder B Lawrence replied that the youngsters were “at a critical age of development when he was headbutting their mother.”

Pattie has previous convictions for violence and criminal damage. His defence said he was remorseful and had struggled with a troubled upbringing and diagnoses of ADHD, autism, depression and anxiety.
