Alex Green, a food influencer with more than 920,000 followers on TikTok, recently visited a popular sandwich shop in the city that has been gaining attention online. Bread and Meat in Bene’t St specialises in gourmet sandwiches and is run by couple Simon and Michelle.

The shop’s website boasts that everything is cooked onsite using locally sourced ingredients and 100% British meats. Bread and Meat also ensures that all their cooking is done using ovens rather than deep fat fryers.

In the caption of his video, Alex wrote: “Trying Cambridge’s viral sandwich shop, Bread & Meat… does it live up to the hype?” He began the video by saying that “everyone keeps telling me that Bread and Meat do the best sandwiches in Cambridge.”

After listing the ingredients and displaying the sandwich, he takes a bite and shares his thoughts on the taste. He explains: “The flavours are really really nice. The bread has a great consistency, a nice outer crunch but a very soft inner. The meat is very very juicy and very flavoursome.”

He adds that the fennel flavours really come through with a slightly minty flavour that creates an overall lovely taste. Alex highlights that the sandwich costs £12 but says “you do pay a premium for British pork.”

He ends the video by awarding the sandwich an “easy” 8.6 rating out of 10. TikTok users were quick to respond in the comments section. With one user saying “Glad I saw this. I’m on my way this morning.”

Another commented: “Best sandwich by far in Cambridge.” Bread and Meat offers a range of sandwiches including its popular Porchetta, made with British pork, stuffed with sage, rosemary, fennel, fresh salsa verde and crackling, which is the one Alex chose to try. Other choices include the Philly Cheese Stack as well as a roast mixed vegetables option.
