Tragedy as girl, 17, killed in horror crash after car catches fire while driver, 19, fights for his life in hospital

A HORROR crash has left a 17-year-old girl dead and a driver fighting for his life in hospital.

Cops rushed to the scene at the northbound carriageway, at Seaton near Sunderland at around 11pm on November 24.

A yellow Vauxhall Corsa left the carriageway and was involved in a collision before catching fire, Northumbria Police said.

The 17-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 19-year-old male, was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers are appealing for those who witnessed the incident to come forward.
