Trains being diverted via Bolton due to fallen tree

Services between Salford Crescent and Wigan Wallgate are facing cancellations, delays up to 30 minutes, or diversions.

Where possible, services will be diverted via Bolton. All stations between Swinton and Daisy Hill will not be served.

Northern train tickets in affected areas have had restrictions lifted.

The disruption, affecting Leeds and Wigan Wallgate, Blackburn to Headbolt Lane, and Manchester Victoria to Wigan North Western, is expected until 6.30pm today.

Passengers with tickets for cancelled trains can travel within two hours before or after on other Northern, TransPennine Express, or LNER services.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “Due to a tree blocking the railway between Salford Crescent and Wigan Wallgate some lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

“All stations between Swinton and Daisy Hill will not be served. Disruption is expected until 6.30pm.

“Our maintenance teams are currently liaising with the train crew in an attempt to move the train forward. Alternative travel suggestions: Train services are unable to run between Salford Crescent and Wigan Wallgate (in this direction only).
