Trains delayed through Durham after police incident
Emergency services were called on Tuesday (December 16) afternoon, around 4pm, with all trains through Durham stopped.
Roads around the station were closed with motorists and pedestrians urged to avoid the area.
Operator LNER said the disruption was due to “trespassers on the railway” with trains between Newcastle and Darlington delayed.
Durham Police said shortly after 4.30pm: “We’re happy to report the incident at Durham railway station has now been cleared, all trains are now running and roads reopen.”
