Tributes to navy veteran, 68, who died on Christmas Day

HEARTFELT tributes have poured in for a navy veteran who died on Christmas Day.

Harold David Turner, 68, was taken to hospital after an incident at a property in St Asaph in Denbighshire, Wales, at lunchtime on December 25.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene after reports of a “disturbance” and rushed the navy veteran to hospital.

Harold, who was better known as Harry, tragically died later the same day with his family paying tribute saying he would be “sadly missed”.

In a tribute, Mr Turner’s family said: “Harry Turner was one of six siblings who, on leaving school, had joined the Navy before working in London, Ireland, and his hometown of Rhyl.

A 66-year-old man who was arrested and subsequently charged with murder appeared at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

District judge Gwyn Jones remanded the man charged with Mr Turner’s murder in custody.

He will appear via video link for a hearing at Mold Crown Court on New Year’s Eve.

Det Ch Insp Eleri Thomas previously appealed for anyone in the area of the Old Palace Flats who heard or saw anything before the incident to contact the force.

She said: “Investigations are ongoing and a police presence remains in the area for reassurance purposes.”

She added the force was not looking for anyone else in connection with the matter.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).
