Two arrested after ‘acid and stab attack’ in Ferryhill
Police, paramedics, and two air ambulances were called to Parker Terrace on December 17 to reports of an assault just after 10.30am.
The incident, which took place as two men got into a taxi, left a 49-year-old man with eye injuries after an unknown substance was thrown in his face and a 44-year-old man with stab injuries.
Durham Police launched an investigation, saying it believed the incident was a “targeted and isolated attack” where all involved knew each other.
Today, the force has confirmed that two men were arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm and have since been bailed as the probe continues.
Meanwhile the two injured men were taken to hospital.

As reported, Parker Terrace was taped off by police following the alleged attack, with pictures showing investigators working within the cordon.
Two officers wearing white suits and purple gloves were also seen shining torches and looking at a taxi parked at the side of the road, which had one of its windows smashed.
Eyewitness Leon Burns, who stumbled across the scene, told the Echo: “I was just jogging from Kirk Merrington to Ferryhill to get to the college using the bus when I first saw an air ambulance go over me when I was near Ferryhill School.

“As I was arriving into Dean Bank near Ferryhill, the second air ambulance arrived on the green in Dean Bank and then when I passed into the town centre I saw the police, fire and ambulances already at the scene.”
In the hours following the incident, police also launched a search for two suspects who were believed to have fled the scene in a black Volvo saloon car.
A police spokesperson at the time said the force did not believe there was any wider threat to the public.
