Portland City Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney said that she believes the pair are still alive but their has not been further update on their condition. According to ABC, the FBI is leading an investigation.

The incident took place as anti ICE protests have broken out across the US, including in Portland, after a 37-year-old woman in her car was fatally shot. Protestors gathered quickly after the shooting on Wednesday and a vigil was held for Renee Good as crowds urge public resistance of immigration enforcers.

Ms Good was killed by an ICE officer while she tried to drive away on a snowy residential street as officers were carrying out an operation related to the administration’s immigration crackdown. Vice President JD Vance has claimed Ms Good’s death is “a tragedy of her own making”.

Mr Vance said at the White House that he was not worried about prejudging the investigation into Ms Good’s killing, saying of the videos he had seen of the Wednesday incident: “What you see is what you get in this case.” He said that Ms Good definitely accelerated her car into the officer and hit him.

Videos of the incident do not clearly show if the vehicle came into contact with the officer. The Vice President said that she was “brainwashed” and “a victim of left-wing ideology”.

He added: “I can believe that her death is a tragedy, while also recognising that it’s a tragedy of her own making and a tragedy of the far left who has marshalled an entire movement – a lunatic fringe – against our law enforcement officers.”

Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey said on Wednesday that footage of the shooting shows arguments that the officer was acting in self-defence were “garbage”. However President Trump has said that Ms Good “viciously ran over” the Ice officer.

Trump deployed federal law enforcement officials and National Guard troops as part of his crackdown on crime and immigration in Democratic cities. Mr Trump officials rejected claims by Democrats and officials in Minnesota that the president’s move to deploy immigration officers in American cities had been inflammatory and needed to stop.
