Brooklyn Beckham has made bombshell allegations against his parents Victoria and David, but their own efforts to protect him from negative attention have now been unearthed.
Brooklyn Beckham has sent the celebrity world into a frenzy after eviscerating his parents in a six-page statement.
No-one is as shocked as David and Victoria, though, after the 26-year-old confirmed on Instagram that he “does not want to reconcile” with his family. Addressing his long-running rift with his parents for the first time, Brooklyn sensationally branded his parents “controlling” and “manipulative” and attacking “Brand Beckham”.
Admitting that he suffered “overwhelming anxiety” growing up in the spotlight, he wrote: “My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first”. Other bombshell allegations in the statement include Victoria sabotaging Brooklyn’s wedding to Nicola Peltz by dancing on him “inappropriately”.
He also said his mother called him “evil” over the wedding seating plan and the Beckhams pressuring Brooklyn into “signing away his name” before the 2022 nuptials. “Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead,” Brooklyn wrote.
“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
And now, as reported by the Mirror, the DJ at Brooklyn’s wedding has revealed exactly what happened. In a bombshell interview on This Morning, DJ Fat Tony, a long-running friend of the Beckhams said: “There was no slut dropping, there was no PVC catsuit, there was no Spice Girls actions. The word inappropriate – why I said it was inappropriate as well because it was the timing.”
He added that Marc Anthony called Brooklyn to the stage and then asked “the most beautiful woman in the room” to join him, before naming Victoria.
The DJ continued: “At that point, Brooklyn is devastated because he thought he was going to do his first dance with his night. Nicola leaves the room crying her eyes out. Marc says, ‘Put your hands on your mother’s hips!’ It was a latin thing and that whole situation was awkward for everyone in the room.”
For those who know David and Victoria, the claims and viral humiliation on social media are hard to swallow. Often described as devoted parents who believe family “is everything,” their once-unbreakable family unit has been shattered overnight. And despite the very public fall-out, their efforts to reconcile have been long-running.
When Brooklyn and Nicola missed David’s 50th birthday bash, a source said: “Victoria feels betrayed because she’s done everything she can to make them both feel welcome and Nicola like another daughter. But she feels it’s been thrown back in her face. She would normally do anything to avoid a family fallout, but she thinks they’re both being unreasonable.”
And now that Brooklyn has aired their feud on the public stage, it seems there’s no way back. “Victoria is on the floor, shocked to pieces that her son would do this,” a source told us after last night’s statement. “They’re still blaming Nicola, feeling she had put him up to this, and it’s all to do with her; they’re constantly blaming Nicola. But as Brooklyn said, he had to do this. He’s sick of being controlled by their narrative.”
Reports overnight also claim, meanwhile, that Nicola gave Brooklyn an ‘ultimatum’ after Victoria’s wedding dance. They told The Sun: said: “Nicola is the problem and the reason Brooklyn and his parents don’t talk. After the dance row, she told Brooklyn in regard to David and Victoria: ‘I don’t want to be around them, and you have a decision to make: Me or her’.
“She gave him an ultimatum and he was helpless in that scenario to do anything other than choose his wife.” The publication further claims that Nicola has ‘put her foot down’ and said ‘I’m not going’ to any invitation from David and Victoria.
It’s a bitter blow for the Beckhams, who are said to have often protected their son from the very thing that he accuses them of – negative media attention. Victoria and David’s powerful PR machine has reportedly got to work on multiple occasions when the couple caught wind of unflattering claims about their son – proving that their dedication hasn’t wavered.
Discussing the stories that spurred the Beckhams into action, Daily Mail columnist Katie Hind wrote: “Some involved him with the wrong crowd, others were ‘kiss and tells’ from former girlfriends. On every occasion, when I put these stories to the Beckhams’ camp, their PR machine leapt into overdrive in Brooklyn’s defence, on occasions instructing expensive lawyers to protect him.”
David and Victoria have over the years also encouraged Brooklyn to pursue different work projects, from football and modelling to interning with a top photographer. The feud was thought to have begun around Brooklyn’s wedding date, with Nicola’s family reportedly paying for a large portion of the event. The big day is said to have cost roughly £3million. But his parents did gift him a rather lavish gift – a vintage Jaguar XK120 thought to be worth a cool £372,000.
Brooklyn’s statement is said to have left his parents devastated – particularly Victoria who came under fire largely during his scathing attack. He claimed his family attempted to “ruin” his relationship with Nicola, with some members allegedly saying she “wasn’t family”. He also accused his parents of pressuring him into “signing away the rights to my name” – something he refused to do. “They have never treated me the same since,” he claimed.
The fallout largely seems to be related to his wife Nicola, with Brooklyn claiming she has been “constantly disrespected” by the family. The aspiring chef said his wedding left him feeling “anxious and embarrassed” after Victoria allegedly “danced inappropriately” on him while “hijacking” his first dance with his wife.
The pair renewed their vows shortly after – an event the Beckham clan did not attend. Brooklyn also claimed the couple had tried to meet up with David alone during his 50th birthday celebrations, as they did not want to attend the publicised bash. When David allegedly did agree to meet Brooklyn, Nicola was not invited. “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards,” the eldest son said at the end of the post. “All we want is peace, privacy and happiness for our future family.”
However, how Victoria and David react in the face of accusations levied by their own son? Their first-born, who, by all accounts, the couple have always been completely devoted to. And what can they do to minimise the damage both to their brand and to the family? “The world is waiting for the Beckhams’ to speak,” Mayah Riaz, PR to the stars, told the Mirror. “From a crisis perspective, their strongest move is restraint and they know this well. Silence is power when your brand equity is this high.
“Retaliation would be a huge mistake and legal threats would pour petrol on the fire. An interview would only legitimise the claims. The most likely strategy is what I call dignified containment. No comment, business as usual, trusted friends briefing softly off the record, and letting the news cycle exhaust itself. This kind of story typically peaks within 72 hours unless someone escalates it.”
Communications expert Judi James, meanwhile, has said that whilst Brooklyn might currently feel like he has got his side of the story of his chest, the high of confession is unlikely to last long: with the reality being that the statement has only added fuel to the fire of public interest in the rift.
“Like most family disputes or rows that are aired out loud though it’s hard to see what his objectives are here. Emotional ‘dumping’ can initially feel cathartic, like having a quiet rant and then crying, but, like tears, the emotions will usually just come back again. And public statements like this can create a ripple effect of upset, distress and responses. ‘Setting the record straight’ like this will usually only make people crave to hear or tell the other side to the story.”
