The emotive short film follows a single mother and her young son as they quietly navigate the festive season
A charity who helps children from low-income families overcome poverty’s impact on their education – has launched a new 2025 campaign in time for Christmas.
The emotive film from Aspire NI, aims to shine a light on the unseen struggles of children living in poverty across Northern Ireland. It also shows the life-changing impact that compassionate support can have.
The short film follows a single mother and her young son as they quietly navigate the festive season. Subtle but striking details reveal the challenges they face including worn clothing and an empty lunchbox. According to the charity, these moments reflect the reality of more than 103,000 children who are currently living in relative poverty in Northern Ireland.

The story also highlights the transformative work of Aspire NI, which supports more than 350 young people every week across 29 schools. Their programmes provide essential academic support, skills development, and confidence building, and ensure every young person feels noticed, valued, and equipped to thrive.
Last year 86 percent of Aspire participants achieved at least five GCSEs including Maths and English far exceeding national averages for pupils from low-income backgrounds.
