A well known West Lothian volunteer has officially retired from her role at West Calder Community Centre.
Currently, Eileen Milne MBE is co-ordinator for a weekly Seated Exercise Class with 50 members ranging from 60 to 93. In addition she holds a Monday Knitting Club producing shawls and small blankets for local groups.
But now, Eileen has decided to hand over the baton after continuing her voluntary work in West Calder Community Centre since her retirement 20 years ago.
Eileen believes community volunteering became part of her life’s purpose. Keeping busy during your latter years is crucial both for your physical and mental wellbeing.

Eileen was born in 1943 in Aberdeen, moving to Livingston in 1987.
She became well known through her voluntary work with Barnardo’s in Craigshill, Ageing Well and Dedridge Good Neighbourhood Network.
In recognition for her voluntary work in the community she was awarded an MBE in 2003 from HRH Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Another award followed more than a decade later when she was named Volunteer of the Year by West Lothian Council in 2015.
She travelled to Manchester in 2024 as a UK Finalist in the Seriously Social Awards.
Eileen accepted a presentation from Dorothy Mitchell and Jordan Stokoe on behalf of West Calder Community Education Association.
