The BBC series is an adaptation of the Inspector Lynley novels penned by Elizabeth George. It premiered earlier this month, marking a reboot 25 years after the original series based on the books.

The four-part drama follows DI Tommy Lynley (Leo Suter) and DS Barbara Havers (Sofia Barclay), who are assigned to solve the murder of a wealthy landowner. While the case itself has kept viewers on the edge of their seats, the breathtaking landscapes showcased in the series have also garnered considerable attention.

Lynley is set in Cambridgeshire and East Anglia. However, much of the filming actually took place in Ireland, reports the Express.

The majority of the filming occurred in 2024, primarily in Ireland. Some scenes were shot in England, specifically in the Norfolk Broads, but a significant portion was filmed on the Emerald Isle.

Dublin and its surrounding areas served as filming locations, along with the Wicklow Mountains. Reports also suggest that shooting took place around Mallow Castle, which is located in County Cork.

In a previous interview with Precinct TV, Leo revealed: “It’s set in East Anglia, and there are some little moments where we pop up in Cambridge and London, but we actually filmed it in Dublin and the environs, beyond the pale, in the Wicklow Mountains, which are stunning and beautiful.

“So, I really enjoyed that, and Ireland was such a wonderful place to film. We did get some footage of the countryside, but we were not there.”

His co-star Sofia chimed in, describing it as “really fun because there are amazing scenes with Leo running in ditches and getting wet”. “There’s so much of him in the countryside, and I think that is also what highlights it so much as him in his pant suits, getting completely stuck into the English countryside,” she elaborated.

Lynley made its debut on BritBox in the US last September, before premiering in the UK on BBC One this month.

The cast includes not only Leo and Sofia, but also Daniel Mays as Detective Chief Inspector Brian Nies, Niamh Walsh, Michael Workéyè and Rosalyn Wright.
