Rugby union star Joe Marler appeared on the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Christmas special
The Boxing Day Christmas Special of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire featured Joe Marler, star of The Celebrity Traitors, in the hot seat.
In the episode, 35 year old rugby union player Joe aimed to ascend the cash ladder in an attempt to secure £1,000,000 for his chosen charity, CALM – Campaign Against Living Miserably.
After successfully amassing £64,000 for his charity, Joe found himself in a quandary when faced with the next challenging question for a six-figure sum, leading him to make a request to host Jeremy Clarkson.
Joe was posed the question: “Which of these multiple winners of the Wimbledon men’s singles title has NOT been victorious in consecutive years?”
The options were A) Pete Sampras, B) Roger Federer, C) Rafael Nadal or D) Novak Djokovic, reports the Mirror.
Joe confessed: “I wouldn’t even know how to try and work it out. I love my sport, I love a bit of tennis, but I’m not a hardcore fan of it and I wouldn’t be able to work this one out.
“I’m gonna have to… I want to leave. I want to leave immediately, if not sooner” to which Jeremy, aged 65, clarified: “So, you have to say to me…”
Joe then stated: “I want to leave immediately, if not sooner. Final answer.”
Jeremy proceeded to explain: “Right. Well, what that means, Joe, is you are leaving here for your charity with £64,000. I’m gonna sprinkle a little bit more pain on proceedings, if I may. What would you have said?”.
Joe confessed: “I’d have probably said, A, Pete Sampras, because the other three were so prolific in their domination and I don’t actually want to know the answer, so all the best.”
However, Jeremy was adamant: “I’m going to tell you!”, adding: “If you’d have said Pete Sampras, you’d now be leaving here with £32,000. The wrong answer. The correct answer is Rafael Nadal.”
The host continued: “But listen, you’re leaving with £64,000. It has been great fun having you here, ladies and gentlemen. What a man. What a contender. Joe Marler!”.
On Twitter, now X, one user commented: “I love Marler. He’s always top quality #whowantstobeamillionaire” while another posted: “#WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire please @BBC and @ITVX someone give Joe Marler his own show. Love him.”
Another account chimed in: “£64,000! A nice win for Joe! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire”, another wrote: “#whowantstobeamillionaire 64k is very good well done Joe” while a different viewer added: “Congrats, Joe Marler, for winning £64k for his charity! #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”
