Why BBC postponed Diane Morgan's Mandy Christmas Special

Diane Morgan’s ‘Mandy’ was set to release its festive edition today but its listing has been removed from its schedules.

The episode, titled ‘The Mandy Who Knew Too Much’, was due to air on BBC Two and iPlayer on Monday evening, December 22, at 10.25pm.

The episode’s synopsis said: “Mandy rarely dabbles in global diplomacy, especially over Christmas when it’s so cold out and there’s good telly on, but when she does, you can bet that she makes a real difference to the balance of power in the world.”

Now, the BBC has said that the episode has been postponed, and that it wants to update parts of it.

Now, the 1988 Tim Burton comedy Beetlejuice will play in the episode’s place.

A BBC spokesperson said: “The Mandy Christmas Special has been moved to 2026.”

In the show, Morgan, who grew up in Farnworth, plays the chaotic and jobless Mandy Carter, whose adventures typically end in disaster.

The pilot episode aired in 2019 and was followed by its first season which consisted of six episodes plus a Christmas special which was transmitted in 2020.

Morgan is also known for starring in BBC series Motherland and the mockumentary show, Cunk On Earth where she plays the ill-informed investigative reporter, Philomena Cunk – a character who was originated from Charlie Brooker’s television review programme Weekly Wipe.

In the series, Philomena is joined by experts who answer her questions about the progression of society as she tries to uncover humankind’s greatest achievements and discover how humans came to be.
