Why Celebrity Traitors' Ruth Codd had second leg amputated

The 29-year-old Irish actress who was “murdered” by Traitors Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross and Cat Burns in the second week of the BBC spin-off in October, had her first leg amputation when she was 23.

In a TikTok video captioned “No legs who dis? #paralympics2026,” Ruth explained: “So I have some good news and some bad news. Good news, we’ve had a full circle moment, I’m back making TikTok content in my parents’ house.

“Bad news, I can’t do it in front of that lovely blue floral wallpaper anymore, due to the fact that room is upstairs and I’ve just had my second below-knee amputation, so unfortunately those facilities are not available to me at the current moment in time.”

She continued: “Yeah, so a lot to unpack there for everyone involved.”

Sitting in a wheelchair, Ruth then introduced her new ‘whip’ to her social media followers which she joked is named ‘Fat Tony’.

Many fans posted well wishes below the video, with Ruth commenting herself: “Guys stop being nice to me it’s weirding me out.”

Someone wrote: “You’re one amazing lady! Very good luck to you and your recovery.”

Another jested: “Good to see you. Wishing you and Fat Toni grand adventures despite the top speed issues.”

Why has Ruth Codd had her second leg amputated?

While getting a tattoo earlier this month, Ruth shared the decision behind her second leg amputation, prior to the procedure, in an Instagram video.

She said: “I was on crutches for eight years, and the way I used my crutches I was always up on my tippy-toes, and so the joints in my feet were destroyed.

“It’s just kind of the same thing. It’s gone past the point where they can do anything about it.

“I’ve already had to have all my toes amputated, and so I have no toes and so my foot looks like a little hamburger.

“So with the second one, it’s just the same situation. It was just my quality of life and it’s never going to get any better from this point so they can only really stop it from getting worse.

“The amount of health problems and stuff I’ve had this past year – I haven’t let it stop me from doing anything but I feel like it has hindered me and made my ability to do my job more difficult.”

Ruth told the Irish Examiner: “My injury is the greatest challenge I’ve faced in my life so far.

“I injured it playing soccer at the age of 15. It never healed correctly so until I was 23, I was on and off crutches, getting loads of operations.

“Because of nerve damage and chronic pain, I chose to get it amputated. It took eight years of my life, constantly going in and out of hospital.

“My whole life revolved around trying to heal my leg. For years, I didn’t see it getting any better. I was stuck in a really bad mindset and I was p****d off at life. When I made the decision to amputate it, things finally started to turn around. It was a relief. I could get on my life.”
