Wigan Road Bolton crash - four victims named locally

Three teenagers – the driver and two passengers – travelling in a Seat Leon, and the driver of a Citroen C4 Picasso – a man in his 50s believed to be a taxi driver – died following the collision in Wigan Road, Bolton, at 12.44am today.

Five more people were injured in the incident and were taken to hospital, where they continue to receive treatment.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, which has shut the road throughout today.

Bolton Council of Mosques has released the identities of four people believed to be the men killed in the crash.

In separate tweets on the X social media website, BCoM has named the four killed as:

  • Muhammad Danyaal Asghar Ali, of Knutshaw Crescent, Bolton
  • Farhan Patel, of Briercliffe Road, Bolton
  • Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, of Junction Road, Bolton
  • Mosrab Ali, of Ash Street, Blackburn

In a letter from BCoM’s executive team also tweeted on X, it said it is closely supporting the affected families and liaising with authorities, and has asked for prayers for the families.

Green Party Councillor Hanif Alli has said: “This is such a needless, tragic loss of life, and we, like many others, are in shock at the severity of the crash.”

Another councillor, Ayub Patel, added he received confirmation from police the crash did not occur following a pursuit, and said his condolences went to those affected and their families.

One resident who lives near the crash site said they heard a loud bang when the crash happened.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were all called to the scene, with firefighters needing to use specialist equipment to cut casualties out of the wreckage.

Greater Manchester Police said: “We are urging anyone with information to please come forward.

“This includes anyone who saw the vehicle driving before the collision, witnessed the incident itself, or has dashcam/ CCTV footage of the incident.
