Experts advise removing a certain item from you car to prevent the windscreen freezing on the inside. This is because simple errors can lead to condensation forming indoors
It’s that time of year when many of us wake up to fogged up cars, but there’s a simple thing you can do to help stop condensation forming in your vehicle. While there are all sorts of methods that can aid the issue, it turns out removing a simple item from your car can also help too.
Sometimes we leave things in our vehicles that can actually lead to condensation forming, and we may not even realise it. Not to worry though, as sometimes taking them out during the evenings can make a world a difference, and could just help to combat the problem in January.
It’s not the only thing you may want to try to help matters either. Previously, the RAC also shared another tip to aid the issue.
However, this time, the piece of advice comes from Start Rescue, and people have also been talking about the tip on Reddit. It came up when a social media user said: “Anyone know why this could be happening to my car? It’s frost on the INSIDE only!”
Little did they know, the post would lead to them learning something super important about condensation. People shared all sorts of useful information.
One person replied, saying: “The moisture in your car is just freezing to the windshield. If you leave cups in your cup holders, or if you have transported something wet, then the windows will fog up from the inside. If it’s cold enough, it can freeze.”
Others chimed in with suggestions. One person said: “Moisture. Add some cat litter in a sock. It will fix it.”
Another commented: “Make sure you don’t turn off the AC in freezing weather. It’s needed to remove moisture that otherwise ends up condensing/freezing.”
A further user added: “Moisture in your car. Try leaving an open tub of rice to soak up the moist air. Just take care driving with it in there!”
What many may not realise is that leaving anything damp inside, such as a coffee cup, can contribute to condensation. Whilst numerous drivers might grab a coffee on the go or bring one to work in a flask, these should never be left in vehicles.
Specialist guidance has been provided on this matter by Start Rescue, which has highlighted what motorists need to be aware of during the winter period, as it can actually result in the interior freezing.
What is the advice from Start Rescue?
According to the website: “Certain items you keep in your car may increase the level of dampness. These include dog blankets, umbrellas and coats.
“It’s a good idea to remove items like these whenever you are not driving to help reduce condensation inside the car when parked. It’s also a good idea to ensure you remove any rubbish from inside your vehicle as soon as possible, as drink receptacles such as old coffee cups and opened water bottles can also contribute to the build-up of condensation inside your car.
“Over time water from these open containers evaporates and the resulting moisture gets trapped inside your car.”
Condensation forms in cars when warm, moist air inside the cabin comes into contact with a cold surface, such as the windows, causing the water vapour to turn into tiny liquid droplets, creating fog or mist.
Due to the fact that a car’s cabin is enclosed, dampness and heat can build up. Various factors can lead to causing the issue, and there’s more than one way to try and resolve it.
