Woman killed by car in Glasgow hit and run as cops hunt driver

The young woman was walking on Castlebank Street at Glasgow Harbour on Tuesday night when she was hit by a car that didn’t stop.

A young woman has died after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run in Glasgow.

The crash happened at around 8:45pm on Tuesday, December 2, at a crossing island near to Burger King and Starbucks on Castlebank Street at Glasgow Harbour.

Emergency services, including Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service, raced to the scene. The female pedestrian was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but tragically died a short time after arriving.

An investigation has been launched to track down the vehicle involved which is described as being a small, dark coloured ‘city car’ model which was travelling west on Castlebank Street at the time of the collision.

Anyone with any information is being urged to get in touch with police. In the meantime, the road remains closed and drivers are asked to avoid the area.

Photos taken at the crash site show a heavy police presence near the entrance to the Burger King, which is situated a stone’s throw from the Clydeside Expressway.

Officers all dressed in black can be seen pacing the street while others stand guard. The entire area has been taped off and signs have been erected to keep drivers and pedestrians away from the vicinity.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor, of the Police Scotland Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the young woman who has died in this incident.

“Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances and identify the car and driver involved are ongoing.

“We would urge anyone who may have seen anything or may have CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area to get in touch.

“The vehicle involved is described as being a small, dark coloured ‘city car’ model which was travelling west on Castlebank Street at the time of the collision. Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 3039 of 2 December, 2025.”
