Woman who died after being hit by car at Asda named

The police force shared the 78-year-old woman’s name this afternoon, identifying her as Margaret Crichton from Oldham.

The incident happened at around 6.50pm in the car park of Asda, on Greenfield Lane in Shaw.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the driver of a Peugeot Expert was making their way to the exit of the Asda car park when he hit a woman making her way back to her vehicle.

The woman, Ms Crichton, suffered ‘significant injury and died, while the driver, a 35-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

An investigation is underway by GMP’s serious collision investigation unit (SCIU), and it is now trying to identify Ms Crichton’s family and is appealing to anyone who might know her or the family, who are believed to be in Manchester or Yorkshire, to please get in touch with SCIU on 0161 856 4741.

SCIU is continuing with the investigation and is asking for anyone with information to please come forward.

This includes anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of it.
