Woman who fell from M66 bridge remains in hospital

Traffic was stopped on the M66 southbound near Ramsbottom due to a ‘police-led incident’ late on  Saturday afternoon.

All traffic was stopped between Junction 1 and the A56 in Edenfield as emergency teams dealt with the incident. Traffic was released later in the evening following an investigation.

Police have said a woman had been spotted on the wrong side of a bridge.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “At around 4pm on Saturday, January 3, officers were called to a concern for welfare of a woman who was reported on the wrong side of the bridge and subsequently fell onto the carriageway of the M66.

“The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and remains at the hospital where she is being treated.”
