The action is necessary for the event to be carried out safely, a council spokesperson said.
Traffic signs and barriers will be in place to inform motorists, and emergency services will be allowed access.
Tower Street, between its junctions with York Castle and Paragon Street, will also be closed for motorists between 12.01am on Tuesday (February 3) and 5am on Thursday (February 5) for essential works.
It is envisaged that this work will take place between 12am and 5am each day – and the road will only be closed in phases in one direction, the council has said.
An alternative route for diverted drivers will be signed via York’s Inner Ring Road.
It will not affect access to residents and business owners.
