Smithills School has secured the rights to perform Beauty and Beast musical – with rehearsals underway for the opening on Monday.
The production will run until Wednesday, November 27.
Audiences can look forward to ‘Be Our Guest’ and ‘Tale as Old as Time.’
Characters like Mrs Potts, Lumiere, and Cogsworth will also make appearances, all made famous by the 1991 animated film.
The musical tells Belle’s journey as she finds herself imprisoned in an enchanted castle.
Year 11 pupil, Grace Pearce, who portrays Belle, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed taking the leading role this year.
“I have had lots of lines and songs to learn but we have all worked together to support each other.”
Year 11 pupil, Rowan Beswick, who usually manages the lighting, will join Grace on stage as the Beast.
Rehearsals have been ongoing during lunchtimes and after school hours.
The school’s performing arts department gives pupils the chance to be involved in both performances and backstage roles.
Year 10 pupil, Nathan Wood, said: “This year I have thoroughly enjoyed leading on designing and planning the stage lights for this production.”
Year Nine and Year 10 pupils, Aaliyah Patel and Aqsa Patel, have been responsible for planning and organising all the props and set backstage.
The cast consists of around 60 pupils from different year groups who are busy learning lines, and practising singing and dancing.
Year 11 pupil, Ella Sadikeen, has taken charge of the choreography, bringing the songs to life with her exciting routines.
Andy Milthorpe, head of faculty for performing arts and PE, said: “We give our pupils a vast range of opportunities within the performing arts each academic year.
“I am always exceptionally proud of every pupil that takes a leading role both on and off stage.”
