A woman has appeared in court accused of the murder of a pensioner in South Lanarkshire.

Susan Sergison, 78, was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency crews were called to a report of a woman seriously injured within a house in Hamilton’s Gilmour Drive on Wednesday night.

Suspect Louise Markson, 50, was arrested by Police Scotland in connection with assault.

At the time, the force said Ms Sergison’s death was being treated as “unexplained” pending a post-mortem examination.

Markson appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday, where she was accused of murder.

The suspect, of Wishaw in North Lanarkshire, made no plea and was remanded in custody.

She is due back in court within the next eight days.
