Arsenal player ratings: Brave Havertz ends debate over his position against PSG but Calafiori needs to iron out errors

KAI HAVERTZ and Bukayo Saka sent Arsenal to a deserved victory borne of first-half dominance.

But Emirates chief Mikel Arteta will mostly be delighted with his side’s latest solid display in Europe’s top club competition.

Havertz nodded home a brilliant cross from Leandro Trossard on 20 minutes.

Saka deservedly doubled that lead 15 minutes later, swinging over a free-kick that evaded everyone, including keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

But PSG were far more forceful after the break, whereas the Gunners‘ lost both some fluency and control of possession.

However, Arteta’s men looked more secure in the final quarter of the match to close out victory – making it four points from two group ties.

Here’s how the Gunners rated at the Emirates on Tuesday.

DAVID RAYA – 7

Was perhaps busier than he usually is at home.

Helplessly watched a Nuno Mendes effort smack his far post and stood firm to deny Achraf Hakimi at his near post.

RICCARDO CALAFIORI – 6

A frantic display, one that had more shaky moments than good. Kept busy by Hakimi and was done for pace on a few occasions but recovered well.

A mistake early in the second half almost gave PSG a way back into the game. Needs to iron out these errors from his game, particularly when he is so dangerous in attack.

However, he was playing at right-back for the first time in his career after the break.

WILLIAM SALIBA – 7

Did not have much to do. A stray pass early on could have been costly but other than that another reliable and strong performance.

GABRIEL – 7

Sprayed some nice passes about from deep but this was a stress-free night’s work compared to the Premier League.

JURRIEN TIMBER – 8

Just how on earth does Ben White get back in this side at right back? Another immaculate display from a man who seemingly has it all in defence and attack.

Well, White may well get his chance after Timber was subbed off at half-time.

DECLAN RICE – 7

Solid as a rock and building a real partnership with Partey in midfield. Had a chance to drive forward just before the half hour mark but his pass to Saka was cut out.

THOMAS PARTEY – 8

So consistent at the moment, something Arsenal fans have not seen from the Ghanaian midfielder in a long time owing mostly to injury.

Made some crucial interceptions and showed real composure playing out from deep.

LEANDRO TROSSARD – 8

One of Arsenal’s most important players right now. Since his red card at Man City, he has notched a goal and an assist – the latter here for Havertz to open the scoring with a perfectly-timed cross.

BUKAYO SAKA – 7

After an early shot over the bar from a trademark cut inside, the England international had a slight drop off in influence before his scuffed free-kick flew in untouched from out wide.

Still, he gave Mendes a torrid time at left-back. Even PSG manager Luis Enrique watched on at times in awe inside his technical area.

GABRIEL MARTINELLI – 7

A quiet night for the Brazilian following his first goal since March against Leicester, which may have been down to a big collision with Gianluigi Donnarumma in the first few minutes.

Should have made it 3-0 with a volley inside the box after the break but it was straight at Donnarumma. Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

KAI HAVERTZ – 9

Brave and brilliant to head in from Trossard’s teasing cross, despite the onrushing lump that is Donnarumma trying to take his head off.

Almost had an assist too with a cute lay-up for Martinelli in the box. The striker-midfield debate should be over – Havertz is a top-class centre forward.

JAKUB KIWIOR (TIMBER, 45) – 7

Did what was expected of him at left-back. Produced a good recovery tackle on Kang-in Lee in the box.

MIKEL MERINO (PARTEY, 64) – 7

Finally, a debut for the Spaniard. Some neat touches under pressure, slotting in seamlessly next to Rice.

GABRIEL JESUS (TROSSARD, 74) – 6

Looked desperate to impress having struggled for starts so far and that looks to be working against him – things just aren’t clicking.

Chelsea player ratings: Nicolas Jackson shows he has something about him vs Liverpool but Jadon Sancho lacks any spark

LIVERPOOL held on to beat Chelsea 2-1 in a thriller as they moved to the top of the Premier League table.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring against his former club from the penalty spot after Levi Colwill tripped Curtis Jones in the box.

Chelsea went into the break trailing and it was nearly worse, only for VAR to overturn a second Liverpool penalty after Robert Sanchez’s lunge on Jones.

The Blues came out from the break flying and Nicolas Jackson equalised.

But they failed to hold on with star of the show Jones netting the winner just minutes later.

Here is how SunSport rated the Chelsea players at Anfield.

ROBERT SANCHEZ – 5

Survived a shocker of a challenge on Jones to not give away a pen and never convincing.

REECE JAMES – 6

Got through 53 minutes in first start since last December and will surely shake off the rust.

TOSIN ADARABIOYO – 5

Booked early on for clattering into Diogo Jota and no surprise was hooked for the second half.

LEVI COLWILL –  5

Got away with one challenge against a diving Salah but a no- challenge penalty after hacked on Jones.

Cole Palmer has fewer touches but is more deadly thanks to Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea tactics

MALO GUSTO – 7

Intelligent display and constant threat down the left flank in the first half especially.

MOISES CAICEDO – 5

At £105m and in Chelsea’s biggest test of the season was found badly wanting.

ROMEO LAVIA – 5

Got the nod over Enzo Fernandez from the start but failed to show any urgency.

NONI MADUEKE – 6

Always mobile and was productive playing as a right-sided attacker – giving Robertson a tough afternoon.

COLE PALMER – 5

Deployed in central midfield but struggled to show his star quality and blazed over a good chance just before the break.

JADON SANCHO  – 4

Lacked any real spark and unsurprisingly hooked off at the start of the second half.

NICOLAS JACKSON – 7

Picked up a typically mouthy booking but the boy definitely has something – as his fine equaliser proved.

SUBS:

PEDRO NETO (for Sancho 46) – 6

Looked a whole lot livelier than the wide man he took over from.

BENOIT BADIASHILE (for Adarabioyo 53) – 6

Looked a lot steadier than the centre-back he replaced.

RENATO VEIGA (for James 53) – 5

Got stuck in and was booked.

ENZO FERNANDEZ (for Romeo Lavia) – 6

Worked diligently to use his passing to make an impact late on.

CHRISTOPHER NKUNKU (for Noni Madueke 76) – 5

Found it difficult to make his presence felt as the Reds dug in to win.

Kyle Walker's wife Annie Kilner looks unrecognisable in incredible 2010 throwback picture

KYLE WALKER’S wife Annie Kilner looks unrecognisable in a dazzling photo she shared on social media.

The partner of the England and Manchester City star uploaded a snap of her sat in the back of a taxi on a night out back in 2010.

Annie has posted a snap on her Instagram story of what she called “How Saturday night looked in 2010”.

And it certainly looks different.

Wearing a lacy crop-top in what looks like the back of a cab, she gazed thoughtfully out of the window with lights zooming past outside.

Annie already knew Walker by then – as they first met in his home town of Sheffield as teenagers.

The couple married in Cheshire three years ago.

Now Annie is preparing to fight for half of the England star’s £27million wealth.

The mother of four, 32, has served divorce papers on the football ace.

And The Sun revealed Walker’s ex-lover Lauryn Goodman, the mum to two of his kids, reported Annie to police over an “‘I want her dead” WhatsApp message.

Officers told Lauryn the message – sent to someone else – was a “conditional threat”.

They said Lauryn would need to take civil action if she wanted to pursue the matter further.

We understand divorce papers were served weeks ago.

A source said: “Annie doesn’t want her share to pay for his children with Lauryn.

“She doesn’t want her children to have a penny but she knows he has to legally.

“Annie doesn’t know what Kyle is spending his money on and wants control of her share.”

She is known to have twice kicked the 34-year-out of their Cheshire home.

The first time was when Ex on the Beach TV reality star Laura Brown said she romped with Walker in his Bentley.

Annie booted him out but allowed him back.

She then told him to leave again when he said Lauryn was having his baby.

We revealed earlier this month Annie had sent contentious WhatsApp messages to a pal after Lauryn’s son Kairo – fathered by Walker – was born in 2020.

Our source said: “Friends had told Lauryn about the ‘I want her dead’ threat so she decided to put it on record with the police in case anything happened with her and her two children.”

Lauryn found out about them last December and contacted police the following month.

Officers judged that Annie had made a “conditional threat” and decided not to speak to her, although the report was kept on file.

The Sun approached Annie’s representative and Cheshire Police for comment.

Ricky Pearsall: San Francisco 49ers rookie makes NFL debut 50 days after shooting

“We hadn’t seen him out there in a while going with the team,” Shanahan added.

“Wednesday, he looked great, Thursday, he was even better, and today he was even more comfortable. It made the decision pretty easy.”

Pearsall was drafted in the first round by the 49ers out of the University of Florida, and big things were expected of him in making the step up to the NFL.

But after dealing with a shoulder injury in the summer, he was then shot in the incident in San Francisco’s Union Square, when he was taken to hospital with a bullet wound to the chest.

Pearsall was released after just one night in hospital as a lucky escape saw the bullet miss any vital organs.

And he impressed his new team-mates immediately upon his return to training.

“He’s doing a really good job, obviously being back and just bringing the juice, going really fast in and out of his cuts and creating some really good separation,” said 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

“When you’ve got a guy like Ricky that can win man-to-man match-ups and then also open up some other guys too, that’s always a good thing. So I’m excited to see what he does.”

Is Fabrizio Romano a time traveller? Fans spot his eerie sub 'leak' during Liverpool's win over Chelsea

FORGET mystic meerkats, uncanny octopuses and even good old-fashioned crystal balls – this eerie Anfield tale might freak you out.

Fans reckon Fabrizio Romano metamorphosed from transfer guru to “time traveller” – as he spooked them out with his mid-match messages in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Liverpool’s Diogo Jota was at the centre of a fun 'time-travel' conundrum after he got injured in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea

The journalist’s millions of followers already believe he is in the loop with his transfer insights – but never before in a TIME loop.

Romano saw the Reds return top of the Premier League with Arne Slot‘s 10th victory in 11 matches since his summer arrival as boss.

But amid a new blitz of VAR dramas, the Italian sparked a conspiracy – with the mysterious timing of his posts about Diogo Jota.

The Liverpool winger was caught up in a major first-half talking point.

With the score goalless, the Portuguese hero escaped through the middle but was hauled down by Tosin Adarabioyo.

The Chelsea centre-back was only booked, leaving Arsenal fans furious as they claimed William Saliba’s red-card foul 24 hours earlier was identical.

Jota never fully recovered from the knock, meaning he was replaced by Darwin Nunez on the half-hour.

Unfortunate, you might think, but nothing untoward.

A second observer added: “At least now we know why he knows all the transfer news? He’s a time traveller.”

A third supporter noted: “He also got the replacement correct.”

And a few went even further down the “sub leak” rabbit hole with suggestions like: “This just proves that football is scripted.”

But others attempted to ease the conundrum by pointing out: “He left the pitch for a few minutes earlier and Nunez was warming up.”

At least Romano didn’t share extra-early details of how Jota suffered his blow.

Otherwise it might have been a case of Whack to the Future.
