Chelsea set to stay at Stamford Bridge and expand stadium to 55,000 - but only if Todd Boehly LOSES boardroom struggle

CHELSEA will remain at Stamford Bridge and expand the stadium capacity to 55,000 — if Behdad Eghbali wins the boardroom battle with Todd Boehly.

Blues’ co-controlling owners are at loggerheads and want to buy each other out — and the outcome will have a huge effect on the stadium plans.

Eghbali favours a £1.5billion renovation to stay at the Bridge, while Boehly wants a new 60,000 ground in nearby Earl’s Court.

A source said: “There is a growing realisation that Earl’s Court can’t be done, while Boehly could be out of the club soon.

“If Todd Boehly leaves, then the club are expected to push forward on plans to remain at Stamford Bridge and work towards a solution for a 55,000-capacity stadium.”

An expansion would see Blues move away from the ground for just two years while work takes place.

Plans include modernising the West Stand, building concrete decks over a neighbouring railway line and using land that the club purchased from veterans’ charity Stoll.

Eghbali’s preferred option does not involve a complete demolition of the club’s 42,000-capacity home.

Construction of a completely new stadium on the Stamford Bridge site is expected to take at least FIVE YEARS — meaning the club would have to find a new home for that time.

But it is understood that Eghbali is not in favour of being away from the Bridge for such a long period.

He had no less than 30 lengths in hand when scooting in at Southwell last time out. Stuart Edmunds’ Yeats mare jumped like a champion hurdler and powered through the line despite the testing conditions. As you’d expect, she is up the weights but has more improvement to come.

WINDCRACK (5.20 Goodwood, nb)

She has looked a different filly since going handicapping on turf. She started with a two-length win at Sandown over this trip before returning to Esher for a gutsy success last month. She was headed but fought back bravely and looks open to improvement.

CASTLE GATES (4.10 Goodwood, treble)

Took a big step forward from his debut when second in the mud at Bath 12 days ago. He finished well so this longer trip should be right up his street.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol official scorecard

Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol went down to the wire.

In a battle to determine who is the light heavyweight division’s undisputed champion, the results weren’t exactly definitive, as Beterbiev won on two of the judges’ scorecards (116-112 and 115-113), with the third calling the fight a draw (114-114).

See the official scorecards from Saturday’s main event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, below.

Judge Manuel Oliver Palomo was the dissenting score, while Glenn Feldman had it 115-113 for Beterbiev and Pawel Kardyni had it 116-112 for Beterbiev.

With the win, Beterbiev now holds light heavyweight titles from all four major boxing organizations. He entered Saturday’s contest as the WBO, IBF, and WBC champion, and claimed Bivol’s WBA belt with the decision win. He also handed Bivol his first pro loss, dropping his record to 23-1.

Beterbiev improved to 21-0, but saw his impressive knockout streak end as he went to the scorecards for the first time in his 11-year career. Afterwards, he and Bivol both said that they were open to an immediate rematch.

Belarus 0-0 Northern Ireland: Michael O'Neill 'disappointed, but only with the scoreline'

Saturday’s match, which took place behind closed doors in Hungary due to Uefa restrictions on Belarus, leaves Northern Ireland third in the group with a win, a defeat and a draw from their opening three matches.

Despite not scoring in their past two matches, O’Neill was confident the goals would come in the future as his team progressed.

“We are not going to be a high-scoring team at the minute,” he added.

“It is always a concern when you are not scoring, but it is not something we have not had before, and we just need to find ways to win.

“We have had three games in the Nations League and two clean sheets.

“I tend to find that with a young team like this, that there are learnings.

“We kept a clean sheet, we weren’t beaten, and the shape of the team was good in and out of possession, and a lot of our football was good.”

Ramazan Temirov throttles CJ Vergara for debut TKO

Ramazan Temirov throttles CJ Vergara for debut TKO

Ramazan Temirov has arrived.

At UFC Fight Night 244, Uzbekistan’s Temirov (18-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) made his UFC debut in a flyweight bout against CJ Vergara. It was an introduction to remember, as Temirov left Vergara (12-6-1 MMA, 3-4 UFC) folded over on the canvas just 2:50 into the fight.

It didn’t take long for Temirov to get going.

He opened the action with a spinning back kick to the body, and kept Vergara on his toes defensively from that point on. Out of nowhere, Temirov charged forward with big looping punches. The first missed, but the second caught Vergara clean, sending him stumbling to the canvas.

From there, the swarm was on. Vergara did his best to cover up, but Temirov ripped a hard left to the body, and that was it.

Temirov, 27, extends his winning streak to double digits, a run that now includes five consecutive first-round finishes.

“The new superstar of the division, and the new showman, and the new champion has arrived to the flyweight division,” Temirov said during his post-fight interview through an interpreter.

On the other side, Vergara walks away as a loser of two straight fights for the first time in his pro career.
