Week 9 of the college football season features a loaded slate of games, and that includes one of the top in-state rivalries in the sport as the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines welcome Jonathan Smith’s Michigan State Spartans to the Big House.

The Spartans are coming off an impressive win over Iowa and made it a point to release a must-see hype video ahead of Saturday’s in-state showdown.

Meanwhile, in other Week 9 action, No. 21 Missouri has a massive SEC matchup against No. 15 Alabama, while James Franklin’s Penn State team gets set to travel to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the Badgers.

Here is a look at the best college football hype videos heading into Week 9 of the season:

Michigan State Spartans

“In this state, you’re either green or you’re blue.”

That is the truth when it comes to the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry, and the Spartans didn’t disappoint with this incredible hype video ahead of their in-state showdown with the Wolverines.

Michigan State does a great job of capturing this huge in-state rivalry with compelling shots and game highlights from battles over the years. Check out the :49 mark, where you can see the famous “Oh, he has trouble with the snap!” moment from the unforgettable finish in the 2015 version of this rivalry.

Michigan State used a perfect mix of current and previous game footage, and it’s impossible not to love the way it was mixed seamlessly together.

Missouri Tigers

“It’s just us.”

That is the message in this must-see hype video, which is narrated by former Mizzou Tiger Brock Olivo, who currently serves as a special teams analyst for the Tigers. Olivo delivers a strong and passionate performance in the video.

Something about hearing the Missouri brotherhood hits different coming from a player who was born and raised in Missouri. The writing was strong in this video, and the way they shot Olivo’s portion was visually exciting. 

Penn State Nittany Lions

“Put it on film!”

That is the overlying message in this outstanding hype video from Penn State ahead of its Big Ten showdown against Wisconsin.

This video features exciting narration, this time by CL Shepherd, who played in the NFL and is now a motivational speaker. The video makes you feel like you’re in a huddle with him and he is getting ready to lead you out to battle. The exciting highlights in this video matched Shepard’s energy.

Cliftonville clinched a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Irish Premiership leaders Linfield at Windsor Park as the top three sides in the league all suffered defeats on Saturday.

Matthew Fitzpatrick had Linfield ahead at half-time but there was drama late in the second half as Rory Donnelly equalised and then fellow substitute Ryan Corrigan popped up with an 85th-minute winner.

The Reds’ first league win over the Blues at Windsor Park since April 2018 condemned David Healy’s side to a third home top flight loss in four games.

Kieran Offord’s spectacular strike gave Crusaders a 1-0 win over second-placed Ballymena at Seaview.

Dungannon, who sit third, took a first-half lead against Loughgall thanks to Andy Mitchell, but the basement side battled back to win 3-1 at Stangmore Park courtesy of a quickfire Ryan Waide double and Robbie Norton.

Ten-man Carrick Rangers drew 1-1 away to Glenavon, David Cushley netting with one minute remaining but David McDaid levelled in stoppage time.

ABU DHABI – Kennedy Nzechukwu’s size proved to be too much for Chris Barnett at UFC 308.

In his return to heavyweight, Nzechukwu (13-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) was able to overwhelm Barnett (23-9 MMA, 2-3 UFC) by landing a knee to the body, followed by a right hook that sat “Beast Boy” down at the 4:27 mark of Round 1 Saturday at Etihad Arena. Barnett appeared to have sustained an injury during the fight and was carried out of the octagon.

Nzechukwu was able to snap a two-fight losing skid after back-to-back losses to Dustin Jacoby and Ovince Saint Preux. Barnett has now lost two of his past three.

WREXHAM’S League One clash away at Charlton was stopped after referee Sam Purkiss suffered a knee injury and had to be replaced.

Yet despite the fitness issue, fans inside The Valley had little sympathy for the official as they sang a brutal chant as he left the field.

Purkiss initially went down in the 11th minute and received treatment on the field of play.

He continued and Conor Coventry’s own goal gave Wrexham a 1-0 lead.

Macaulay Gillesphey levelled for the hosts midway through the first half, before Purkiss went down again.

This time he was unable to carry on and Alan Dale replaced him 10 minutes before half time.

As he left the pitch, fans could be heard singing: “You’re not fit to referee”.

Wrexham went to Charlton knowing they could close the gap to Birmingham to just two points with a win.

In one of the lunchtime kick-offs, Birmingham were held to a 1-1 draw away at Mansfield.

Wrexham are seeking a third successive promotion and have made an impressive start to the season.

Phil Parkinson’s side have picked up seven wins, four draws and two defeats from their opening 13 League One matches.

They have also lost just one of their last seven games in all competitions – since going down 3-1 to pacesetters Birmingham in September.

Last weekend, Tyler Reddick was rolling through the infield crash in a wild crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Just six days later, he’s shown his determination to drag himself out of the elimination zone by winning pole position at Homestead.

Reddick’s pole lap of 32.248s was more than enough to secure the top spot, earning his third pole of the year and the ninth of his Cup career. Joining him on the front row is Kyle Larson, who was 0.077s adrift of the pole.

Christopher Bell qualified third and Denny Hamlin fourth with Joe Gibbs Racing drivers locking out the second row. Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who earned his first win of the year at Talladega earlier this month, was the highest-qualifying non-playoff driver in fifth.

Martin Truex Jr. was sixth, Chase Elliott seventh, Bubba Wallace eighth, Daniel Hemric ninth, and Justin Haley tenth.

There were no incidents during either round of qualifying and all drivers set a time.

Round 1

Reddick led the Group A drivers in the early-morning qualifying session with a 32.126s lap. Four of the five drivers who advanced were Toyota drivers with the 23XI duo of Reddick and Wallace advancing along with JGR drivers Hamlin and Truex.

Haley was the only Chevrolet driver to advance, representing Spire Motorsports and beating Josh Berry for the final spot by only 0.008s.

Two playoff drivers failed to advance and they were both Team Penske champions. Joey Logano, who won last week and is already locked into the Championship 4, was the lowest-qualifying playoff driver and was 13th in Group A (26th overall).

His teammate Ryan Blaney, who is in a far more precarious points position as he tries to earn back-to-back titles, will start 20th.

In Group B, a Toyota again topped the charts with Bell lapping the track with a 32.268s lap. In a contrast to Group A, Bell was the only Toyota to move on while the remaining four spots were all held by Chevrolets. Stenhouse, Larson, Elliott and a surprise in Hemric all moved forward. The Kaulig Racing driver was the last driver to advance, beating Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman by 0.039s.

William Byron was far behind his Hendrick teammates with the 2024 Daytona 500 winner qualifying 25th.
