Erling Haaland: How Manchester City striker reached 100 goals for club
One record that could be on the agenda for Haaland soon is becoming Norway’s all-time top scorer.
He has scored 32 goals – only one behind record scorer Jorgen Juve, who played between 1928 and 1937.
Any other records might have to wait a while.
Sergio Aguero is Manchester City’s record goalscorer on 260 goals – a record Haaland would break in his sixth season at the club, based on his scoring rate, if he stays that long.
The Premier League’s all-time top scorer is Alan Shearer, also on 260 goals.
Haaland has won the Golden Boot in both his seasons in England, with 36 and 27 goals, and has those 10 goals in five Premier League games this campaign.
Based on that form – and his current rate of playing 88% of City’s league games – he would break Shearer’s record in 2029-30 if he stays.
Including top-flight football before 1992, the record is Jimmy Greaves’ 357. So Haaland would need another few years to beat that – and would probably need to spend the rest of his career in England to do so.
He is unlikely to ever break Dixie Dean’s record of 60 goals in a top-flight season (for Everton in 1927-28)… unless he keeps this season’s goalscoring rate up.
The next big Premier League landmark will be quickest to 100 goals, and he has 52 games to score 27 goals and beat Shearer’s record.
The Champions League goalscoring record is Cristiano Ronaldo’s 140 goals. Haaland is already on 41 goals in 39 Champions League games across five seasons.
It would take him about 12 years to beat that record, based on just over eight goals a season.

Sarah Storey beat Paralympic rival Heidi Gaugain to win gold in the women’s C4-C5 individual time trial at the 2024 Para-cycling Road World Championships in Switzerland.
Storey, 46, completed the 29.9km course in 45 minutes 25 seconds to finish one minute 36 seconds ahead of France’s Gaugain and win her 38th Para world title.
It was a successful title defence for Storey, who won this event in Glasgow last year.
“To hit out the way I did, I was really chuffed. The course was so much fun,” Storey told BBC Sport.
“It was great and I was really glad I had the legs to put in the performance as well.”
In the women’s B individual time trial, Ireland’s Katie-George Dunlevy, alongside pilot Linda Kelly, were victorious. They finished in a time of 43:14.
It was a British second and third, with Sophie Unwin, alongside pilot Jenny Holl, placing second and Lora Fachie, with pilot Corrine Hall, third.

Bayern Munich maintained their flawless start in the Bundesliga with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen.
Harry Kane scored just the one goal, but it was a significant one. Kane’s strike made him the top scoring English player in the history of the Bundesliga.
The England captain’s goal moved him above Jadon Sancho, who scored 40 Bundesliga goals for Borussia Dortmund.
However, it was the performance of Michael Olise – who scored twice against Bremen – which got the juices flowing for Bayern boss Vincent Kompany.
Olise, who joined Bayern in a £50m deal from Crystal Palace, has been in scintillating form with five goals in his past three games in all competitions.
“Michael did very well. He’s a special talent. It’s a luxury at Bayern to have so many good players,” Kompany said after the game.
“His start at Bayern couldn’t be much better. He has to keep going this way. I haven’t got the feeling that he’s a player who feels much pressure. He just enjoys football.”
Bayern have scored 29 goals under Kompany – a new club record for the first six competitive matches of a coach since the Bundesliga was founded.
No wonder Kompany allowed Bayern’s players – including Kane, Olise and Jamal Musiala – to don their lederhosen and enjoy the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest festival.
Champions Bayer Leverkusen remain a point behind Bayern after a dramatic 4-3 victory over Wolfsburg.
Victor Boniface scored in the third minute of injury time for Leverkusen, with midfielder Granit Xhaka calling the match a “a giant wake-up call” before next Saturday’s showdown with Bayern.
“We can’t keep going with performances like that. We can’t defend so naively. Sure, we scored four but we can’t do that every weekend,” Xhaka said.
Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund were thrashed 5-1 by Stuttgart, while newly promoted Holstein Kiel got their first-ever Bundesliga point after a 2-2 draw at Bochum.
