Jack Grealish: I’ll be honest with you… I didn’t agree with Gareth Southgate’s shock Euro 2024 decision
JACK GREALISH is on a mission to prove a point with England after his Euro 2024 “devastation”.
The Manchester City winger felt Gareth Southgate was wrong to leave him out for the tournament in Germany.
Interim boss Lee Carsley recalled Grealish last month and started the £100million man – who has just announced he has had a baby girl with partner Sasha Attwood – in wins over Republic of Ireland and Finland.
Asked about his Euros axe, Grealish said: “I will be honest with you – I didn’t really agree with it.
“You can imagine how I was absolutely devastated. It was one of the most difficult periods of life in terms of football.
“It was difficult to just watch the games, especially for someone like me who watches so much football.
“I have won a lot of stuff now so, you asked me should I have gone, yes, I still think I should have, but obviously it wasn’t meant to be.
“I felt like I didn’t have the best season. If you look at some players in my position, for example Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, Jarrod Bowen, they scored a lot of goals.
“But I know that my game is not just about goals. I give so much more to the team than goals.
“You need a bit of a balance in every position on the pitch and I class myself as quite an experienced player now.

“I’ve played in a lot of big games — Champions League finals and FA Cup finals.”
Grealish, 29, scored in the 2-0 win over Ireland in Dublin and hopes to feature against Greece in the Nations League at Wembley on Thursday.
The three-time Premier League winner is feeling “a lot of love” playing for Carsley — a fellow Brummie.
And Grealish believes the former Three Lions Under-21s boss has all the qualities to land his new job on a permanent basis.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “He played me in both games and hopefully I repaid him by scoring in Dublin. It was nice to play in the No10 role.
“I wanted to come here and train well and play well. I thank the manager, Lee Carsley, for giving me that chance and having that trust in me. It’s really meant a lot.
“Throughout my career, when I’ve played under managers that have shown a trust in me and communicated with me the way he has in the past two camps, it has really helped me.
“I’ve felt a lot of love from the manager.
“It makes me feel that the manager really does rate me and I can’t speak highly enough of him since I’ve been here.
“He gets across to us how he wants us to play and how he wants me to play personally. The younger lads with him at the Under-21s said he is like a proper father figure.”

Nicolas Jackson learns fate after shock footage appeared to show Chelsea star SLAPPING rival in mass brawl vs Forest
CHELSEA and Nottingham Forest have been charged over the mass bust-up which overshadowed the climax to their feisty draw.
But Blues‘ striker Nicolas Jackson is off the hook after he appeared to slap defender Morato during the brawl.
Striker Jackson had been substituted already but joined in the 88th minute fracas as tempers boiled over with each team searching for a late winner.
The incident was sparked by Neco Williams shoving Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella as they tussled for the ball near the touchline – with the Spaniard sent clattering into Blues boss Enzo Maresca.
It prompted a huge shoving match involving the backroom staff of both clubs.
Jackson, wearing a training coat, is then spotted joining in from the bench and appears to lash out with his arm in the direction of Morato.
VAR Jarred Gillett saw the flashpoint but did not suggest to take the matter further and the FA are following suit after reading match referee Chris Kavanagh’s report.
An FA statement read: “Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have been charged after the mass confrontation at their Premier League fixture on Sunday, 6 October.
“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 88th minute. Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have until Thursday, 10 October, to provide their responses.”
Forest’s Williams and Chelsea defender Levi Colwill were booked for their part in the melee.

Chelsea had six or more players booked for the second time this season and will cop an additional £50,000 fine.
They will also be without Cucurella and Wesley Fofana for the next match – a trip to Premier League leaders Liverpool – after the pair reached five yellow cards for the season so far.
But Maresca insists he has no problems with his side’s disciplinary record.
He said: “I like the team, the way they’re fighting. I like the way they are becoming a team. I don’t see any problems with that.
“Do I prefer it when something like that happens? I like the team spirit. I don’t see any problem.”
“I was in my area, so I was where I had to be.
“In terms of emotion, the team is fighting together. Someone tried to kick me, I fell down.
“But if you ask me about the team spirit, the way they are fighting together, I’m very happy.”
Chelsea player ratings vs Forest: Madueke shines again but hot-head Jackson too busy arguing
CHELSEA were held by ten-man Nottingham Forest as frustration filled Stamford Bridge.
Noni Madueke cancelled out Chris Wood’s opener but the Blues couldn’t find a winner.
And frustrations boiled over with a mass brawl in added time.
Here’s how SunSport’s Jack Figg rated the Blues stars.
Robert Sanchez – 8
Excellent positioning to snuff out Forest counter on hour mark and made two sensational late saves to deny the visitor’s a winner.
Malo Gusto – 6
Wasn’t able to prevent Nikola Milenkovic’s flick on to set up Wood’s opener but he produced a great block to deny Gibbs-White in the box.
Wesley Fofana – 7
Forming a good partnership at the back with Colwill. Finally some consistency at centre-half for Chelsea.
Levi Colwill – 7
Made a huge block to prevent Yates in the first half. John Terry-esque defending.
Marc Cucurella – 5
Lacked attacking creativity down the left having filled in at centre-back at times. Failed to form much of a threat with Sancho.
Moises Caicedo – 6
Agonisingly close to getting ahead of Wood to prevent the Forest opener. Took the role as deep-lying midfielder in front of back line.
Enzo Fernandez – 5
Still looks to be finding his best position under Maresca. Not a natural holding midfielder but denied preferred advanced role by Palmer.
Cole Palmer – 6
Looked lively when afforded space in the centre but the Chelsea superstar saw a huge chance saved thanks to Matz Sels double save.
Noni Madueke – 8
Constant threat down the right side with his goal well deserved. But the winger finds himself guilty of making the wrong choice in the final third.
Jadon Sancho – 4
Largely absent throughout the match with Aina doing a stellar job in keeping the tricky forward quiet. Lacked killer instinct going forward.
Nicolas Jackson – 4
Apart from pressing, quiet throughout. Slow to react in the box in a frustrating sign of inconsistency after recent goalscoring form. Spent more time arguing with team-mates at points.
Subs
Joao Felix (for Fernandez 80 mins) – 6
Christopher Nkaunku (for Jackson 80 mins) – 6
Mykhailo Mudryk (for Sancho 89 mins) -5
Pedro Neto (for Madueke 89 mins) – 6
Tosin Adarabioyo (for Colwill 90+3 mins) – 5

Emotional Chris Eubank Jr opens up on becoming father overnight after brother’s death and how he won’t copy his star dad
CHRIS EUBANK Jr wants to hit the boxing jackpot to give his nephew the life he deserves.
In July 2021, Raheem was only a month old when his dad Sebastian — the younger brother of Chris Jr — died of a heart attack in Dubai, aged 29.
It meant uncle Chris became a dad overnight and three years on Raheem, who has just started school, is now chasing him around the practice ring ahead of his middleweight clash with Poland’s Kamil Szeremeta in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.
At 35, Eubank Jr looks unlikely to follow in his father’s footsteps by becoming a world champion — with a scrap against nemesis Conor Benn likely to follow.
But he explained that the total devastation that struck his family left him with a new drive in the shape of a nephew he now treats like his own son.
He said: “I remember going to my brother’s grave for the first time and that’s where I first met Raheem and I held him in front of the grave and it calmed me down.
“His energy and him being very quiet while on my chest gave me peace.
“I felt then that everything would be OK.
“I felt that we might have a second chance here.
“I love that little boy. I use Raheem as a tool to strengthen my will and my soul and my spirit.

“Raheem is going to live a long and fulfilled life and I only have a few years of boxing left.
“So I need to do everything I can over the next three or four years to make sure he has the best life he can possibly have growing up.”
The death of Sebastian understandably took a terrible toll on his father, Chris Eubank Sr.
The theatrical but granite-hard two-weight world champion was suddenly weak and vulnerable and preyed upon — saying things that caused a rift with his eldest son.
The flare-up was exacerbated by Eubank Sr’s disgust at his son stripping down to 157lb to face Benn, who failed a drugs test before their October 2022 grudge bout was called off.
Sadly, especially for little Raheem, who is now three, the gladiatorial gene pool is not fully reunited yet.
Dubai-based Eubank Jr said: “We should be able to help Raheem without boxing involved.
“But there is still a wedge between us. Until the day I retire, I don’t ever see that wedge not being there.
“It should not be that way but he is set in his ways and he can’t seem to separate the boxing business from being a dad.
“I don’t need Chris Eubank Sr the boxer, businessman, coach, mentor, advisor.
“He is in a better place now. He was dealing with some demons — and he still is.
“But he has got over and through a lot of things and he is in a much healthier state of mind, thank God.
“I am very happy about that. I speak to him whenever I can, I keep up to date with how everything is going. I am hearing good things now, when a year or two ago I was not.
“I am very grateful that we have managed to get through that part of our lives.”
Eubank Jr makes his heart-breaking overnight transformation from super-cool uncle to doting dad sound like a doddle. But it means he is now in a rush to give Raheem the little sibling he himself adored in Sebastian.
And then he has to wrestle with the idea of both of his boys following down the brutally hard path that his dad, brother, cousins and uncles have all walked.
He explained: “Once I was put in this position for Raheem, people saw a different side to me, a softer side.
“Spending time with Raheem makes me think more about having my own son, giving him a brother and raising them together.
“His dad was my brother and we grew up together and I want to give Raheem that.
“My new role means I have to teach Raheem — I cannot be Mr Nice Guy all the time.
“He has got to learn that certain things are not good or OK. In a sports setting, tough love and strict rules breed success.
My old man would say…‘What are you doing? Get back in the f*****g ring and work and learn and take your licks like a man’.
Chris Eubank Junior
“Nine times out of ten, if you don’t have the tears, punishment and discipline, then a kid is not going to flourish in sport, especially boxing.
“My old man would watch me get hurt, he would watch me get beaten up and tell me, ‘Get back in the ring’.
“There were no hugs, there was no, ‘How are you son, are you feeling OK?’
“He would say, ‘What are you doing? Get back in the f*****g ring and work and learn and take your licks like a man’.
“That would break a lot of people, let alone kids, but it pushed me.
“Not everybody has it but you need it to survive in combat.
“I have a very soft spot for Raheem because of our situation, so I don’t think I would want to go through it with him.
“Would I love to see him pursue a boxing career? No, I don’t think I would love it.
“I know his mother will not want him to do it — but his father did it, I do it and our father did it, so he has the genes, he’s part of our gene pool.”

Paul Watson: Sporting director leaves Swansea City
It is thought Watson played a role in the recruitment of Duff, who was sacked in December following a run of just five wins in 19 league games.
Alan Sheehan took over as caretaker prior to the permanent appointment of current head coach Luke Williams in January.
Watson was among those criticised for the club’s transfer activity during the 2023 summer transfer window – with few of Swansea’s signings impressing and many deemed not suited to the club’s preferred style of play.
The transfer business occurred despite Watson later claiming the recruitment structure at the club was not up to the required standard upon his arrival in south Wales.
Speaking of his maiden transfer window at Swansea at a fans forum in March, Watson said: “There were no scouts (at the club), no processes, no nothing.
“There wasn’t a single person in the building, so the recruitment over the past few years, prior to us coming in, was almost on a whim. That couldn’t last.”
The sporting director angered some Swansea supporters after being pictured with former Luton boss Nathan Jones – a known Cardiff City fan – during the club’s 5-0 FA Cup fourth round defeat by Bournemouth in January.
“I worked with Nathan for five years,” Watson said of the incident.
“When I went to an away game, they put our seats together because they knew we’d worked together. On reflection, I apologise. It won’t happen again. I certainly didn’t mean to offend the fans.”
There have been further concerns regarding the club’s transfer strategy given that Williams’ squad has been left short in areas following the exits of 13 players, and a further four fringe first-team players, over the summer, with only eight coming in, two of which were goalkeepers.

USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, Oct. 8: Julianna Peña back on top
The latest pay-per-view event for the UFC hosted a pair of title fights, producing a new two-time champion.
In the main event of UFC 307, Alex Pereira successfully defended his light heavyweight title by stopping Khalil Rountree in a Fight of the Night battle. Pereira is already No. 1 in his division and in the P4P rankings, so he has nowhere to move. However, Rountree, even in a loss, moves up a few spots due to his stellar performance, moving from No. 12 to No. 10.
In the co-feature, Julianna Pena emerged victorious in a controversial split decision win over Raquel Pennington to win back the women’s bantamweight title. Peña entered the week at No. 2 and Pennington at No. 1, swapping places after Saturday’s result.
In another women’s bantamweight swap, No. 3 Ketlen Viera lost to No. 4 Kayla Harrison. They swap rankings in this week’s update.

Iconic 182-year-old horse racing club loved by the Queen closes track with grounds to be replaced by HOUSES
A RACING venue visited by Queen Elizabeth II has closed its doors to the public for a final time.
The Kranji racecourse was home to the historic Singapore Turf Club.
Her Majesty, who was a huge racing fan, twice visited the historic club.
She first went there in 1972, before visiting again in 2006 alongside husband Prince Philip, following the club’s move to Kranji.
The Singapore Turf Club was formed in 1842, and previously attracted huge crowds.
It moved to Kranji in 2000, with its first race there bringing in 30,000 punters.
Those numbers haven’t been seen at the track for several years, however, and even its final meet on Saturday attracted a comparatively meagre 10,000 spectators.
Due to small attendances, the club struggled to attract sponsors in its final years.
In 2023 it was announced that the 127-hectare site would be turned into affordable housing.
The project is planned to be completed by 2027.

Around 700 racing horses previously resided in Singapore, although that number is now believed to have fallen to 240 – with many having moved to nearby Malaysia.
Horse owner Eric Koh was in a sombre mood ahead of Saturday’s final meet at Kranji.
He told Channel News Asia: “There’ll be guests who will be very excited and will be out there for a fun day out.
“But to a lot of us the trainers, the owners, the jockeys, it’ll be quite a solemn and sad day.
“It’s like attending a funeral, really. The reality has set in.
“We have all accepted that there’s no U-turn and so we just have to move on.”
