AUSTRALIAN club Macarthur FC have been placed on a transfer ban until they pay former boss Dwight Yorke over £100,000 in compensation.

Yorke, 52, was appointed manager of the A-League club back in July 2022 and spent just six months in New South Wales.

During that time, he led Macarthur to victory in the Australia Cup and won 10 out of 18 matches.

But he was sacked in January 2023 after a huge dressing room clash.

Yorke compared his squad to a “pub team” and claimed the club was “run by muppets” in the wake of a 1-0 defeat to Adelaide United.

He later took Macarthur to a FIFA tribunal and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

It was ruled that Yorke had been sacked without just cause, meaning the club would have to pay him A$212,500 (£109,000) in compensation.

FIFA have now banned Macarthur from signing any new players until they settle the fee.

Club officials are now exploring legal alternatives.

A statement from the Bulls read: “The club is not concerned of the immediate effect of FIFA’s decision and is exploring further legal avenues available.

“The club is confident the matter will be resolved between now and January 2025.

“The club will be making no further comment on the matter.”

CEO Sam Krslovic added: “This transfer ban is a non-event. We’re in the process of resolving this issue by the start of the January transfer window.

“The club is currently exploring its legal options in regards to defamation following stories and interviews which have stemmed from the event.”

Meanwhile, Yorke said: “I have maintained dignity throughout this and will continue to do so. FIFA and CAS have found in my favour.

“As of now, I’m awaiting my settlement. I wish the players, the supporters and the club all the best.”

Almost a year after saying he had the itch to fight again, but would stay retired, Glover Teixeira now leaves the door open for a potential return to the octagon.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion told MMA Fighting in November 2023 that he was “very comfortable where I’m at right now” as MMA coach and retired fighter, but being around so many great athletes — and sharing the mat with the likes of UFC champion Alex Pereira on a daily basis — has him once again eager for competition.

“There’s nothing [booked], but I’ll definitely go back to competition,” Teixeira said in an interview with MMA Fighting. “I keep going after challenges. It’s hard to stay [training] with no reason why, so I’ll definitely do something. I want to compete.”

Teixeira retired from the sport in January of 2023 after losing back to back UFC title fights to Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill, and won a grappling match against Anthony Smith in June of 2023.

There were discussions of maybe returning to the mat earlier this year against Rafael Lovato Jr., at one of the UFC Fight Pass Invitational grappling shows, but that didn’t materialize.

Teixeira was crucial part of three Pereira training camps this year for successful title defenses against Hill, Prochazka and most recently Khalil Rountree at UFC 307, and the Brazilian veteran, who turns 45 lates this month, is open to offers in multiple sports — even the UFC.

“I’ll do some jiu-jitsu, I wanna do… I don’t know, maybe boxing. Or even go back for some fights in the UFC,” Teixeira said. “That’s got to be it because it’s hard, man. I’m feeling great, fighting hard with the guys in the gym. I’ve rolled with some wrestlers, training with Sean Strickland and ‘Poatan’. I was doing some light sparring with ‘Poatan’ the other day, and he’s like, ‘F*ck, Glover, you have to come back!’

“I’m training well, I’m feeling well. I love this. I’m not saying I want to fight, but I want to compete. If it’s jiu-jitsu, Lovato, guys like that. I wanna do some matches, that’s for sure.”

Teixeira fought professionally 42 times between 2002 and 2023, racking up a record of 33-9 with key UFC wins over the likes of Jan Blachowicz, Rashad Evans, Ryan Bader, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Anthony Smith and Jared Cannonier. Teixeira came up short in his first UFC title fight in 2014, losing a decision to Jon Jones, before finally conquering gold seven years later to become the oldest first-time champion in promotion history at age 42.

By any measure, this was an incredible day of Test cricket, one that broke new ground and challenged other landmarks that have stood for decades.

Even on a pitch that has been abnormally flat for the best part of four days, and against a toothless Pakistan attack missing ill spinner Abrar Ahmed, the runs scored by Brook, Root and England were extraordinary.

The tourists gave themselves the advantage by moving to 492-3 on day three, when Root became England’s all-time leading Test run-scorer.

Root had added 10 to his overnight 176 when he drilled Naseem Shah to mid-wicket, where Babar Azam shelled a simple catch. From there, Pakistan fell apart, England scored at will and the prospect of a rare triple-century quickly became a reality.

Brook, resuming on 141, went past his previous highest Test score of 186. A top-edge off Aamer Jamal just evaded the square leg fielder and, from the next ball, a Brook pull took the stand past England’s previous best partnership of 411 between greats Colin Cowdrey and Peter May in 1957.

Root found another best in his record-laden career, beating his previous highest score of 254. After 10 hours at the crease, he was eventually beaten by an off-break that Salman Agha got to keep low.

Brook went on and on, toying with the bowling using both classical and unorthodox strokes: cover drives, ramps, flicks and use of the feet. Pakistan became a rabble, beset by misfields and overthrows, while six home bowlers conceded more than 100 runs.

Only eight overs were needed to add 79 with Jamie Smith. Brook went from 250 to 300 in just 29 balls, a holy grail of batting achievements reached thanks to a straight four off Saim Ayub.

It was the 32nd instance of a triple century in Test cricket, which Brook celebrated with a salute to the dressing room and a look to the sky.

The 25-year-old seemed set to challenge Sir Len Hutton’s 364, the highest score by an England batter, until he top-edged a sweep off Ayub. He left owning the fifth-highest score by an Englishman.

Still England were not done, becoming the fourth team to pass 800 before captain Ollie Pope decided enough was enough just before tea.

The Sheffield-born star attended Dore Primary and King Ecgbert School during his childhood.

When he turned 15, he earned a sports scholarship at Worksop College after displaying his talents.

Having debuted for Yorkshire’s second team in 2007, he worked his way up to becoming a full-time England international.

The star made their debut for the national Test side in 2012 against India as he became the 655th player to represent England.

Since the adorable throwback pictures, he has gone on to become a record-breaking run scorer for the team.

The player is, of course, Joe Root.

The batter surpassed Sir Alastair Cook’s record of 12472 runs, scoring across 161 matches.

Root, 33, smashed the record in his first innings in the first Test match at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

The star scored an incredible 262 runs off 375 balls to take his run total for England to 12664.

With his current total, he is now the fifth most prolific run-scorer in the history of Test cricket.

Root is only behind the legends of Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Rahul David.

Tendulkar is well ahead at the top of the leaderboard with an astonishing 15921 runs in 200 matches across his career, which spanned from 1989 to 2013.

Root’s 262 is his best-ever score in Test cricket. However, it was not the best in the match.

His team-mate Harry Brook managed to upstage him with a miraculous 317 from just 322 balls.

The pair scored an incredible 454 during their time together at the crease, which is the highest test partnership in England’s history.

It surpassed the 409-run stand that Colin May and Peter Cowdry put up against the West Indies in 1957.

The only England batter from the top order that would have been majorly disappointed would be Ollie Pope.

The stand-in captain failed to trouble the scorers as he was caught off his second ball for zero.

England finished their first innings with a massive 823 runs and a lead of 267 after Pakistan’s opening stand of 556.

The innings are England’s third highest scoring in their history, only behind the 849 against the West Indies in 1930 and a 903/7d against Australia in 1938.
