After second UFC skid, Lucie Pudilova gets Oktagon MMA title shot

When Lucie Pudilova fights for Oktagon MMA, just about all seems to be right in her combat sports world.

When she’s in the UFC, it’s been a different story. But for now, the positive: Pudilova (15-10) on Saturday returned to Oktagon MMA and beat Cecilie Bolander (3-1) with a split decision. After the win, the promotion announced she’ll move on to a vacant women’s bantamweight title shot against Lucia Szabova (8-0) at Oktagon MMA 65 on Dec. 29.

Pudilova, a 30-year-old from the Czech Republic, trains with Conor McGregor coach John Kavanagh in Dublin. She reached the UFC in 2017 and dropped her debut, but won two straight after that. She was cut loose after a four-fight skid to Irene Aldana, Liz Carmouche, Antonina Shevchenko and Justine Kish, but went on a 5-1 tear for OKtagon MMA and made her way back to the UFC.

But once again in the world’s biggest promotion, it wasn’t meant to be. Pudilova dropped decisions to Joselyn Edwards, Ailin Perez and Luana Carolina. The latter was in July, and Pudilova found herself quickly back in Oktagon – where she won her return and got her title shot Saturday.

Szabova, a 26-year-old from Slovakia, has six of her eight wins by stoppage.

Video: Colby Covington puts rapper Lil’ Pump to sleep with brutal rear-naked choke

Video: Colby Covington puts rapper Lil’ Pump to sleep with brutal rear-naked choke

Colby Covington’s last submission win in the UFC came with a rear-naked choke against Jonathan Meunier back in 2016 but he dusted off that move for a new video he made with rapper Lil Pump.

For some reason, a great number of athletes and influencers who are not trained mixed martial artists love to feel what it’s like to get choked out by a professional fighter. So Covington obviously granted Lil Pump’s wish when he applied a submission to put the 24-year-old rapper to sleep.

In the video, the three-time UFC title challenger applies the choke and initially uses a Gable grip to lock up the submission but Lil Pump ends up tapping his own chest rather than Covington’s arm to signify he’s done.

So Covington then switches to the more traditional rear-naked choke with his arms wrapped around Lil Pump’s head and neck to secure the submission. A moment later, the rapper falls unconscious from the choke and Covington finally releases the hold when he’s told Lil Pump is out.

“Look at his eyes,” Covington said in the video. “He’s out.”

Lil Pump is soon revived with a look of confusion on his face that eventually gives way to a smile when he realizes what happened. He also posted the video on his social media with a comment about getting choked out by Covington.

“Don’t miss my next kick stream It’s getting crazier by the day,” the rapper wrote on his Instagram account. “Don’t try this at home. I got put to sleep.”

Renato Moicano stages comeback on Jalin Turner

Jalin Turner seemingly had Renato Moicano dead-to-rights at UFC 300, but then a tactical error cost him the win.

Moicano (19-5-1 MMA, 11-5 UFC) is set to face Benoit Saint Denis (13-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in next Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 243 main event at Accor Arena in Paris (ESPN+) in what will be the first headliner of his promotional tenure. That spot was earned through a gruelling comeback win over Turner at the monumental UFC 300 event in April.

Turner came out of the fight strong, hurting Moicano on the feet and using his striking ability to score a knockdown. Instead of pouncing on his downed opponent, though, Turner attempted to get a walk-off highlight. The fight wasn’t stopped, however, and Moicano regained his wits and made it to the next round, where he got the fight to the mat and finished the job with a ground-and-pound TKO.

The result put Moicano on a three-fight winning streak and pushed his record to 6-1 since moving up to the lightweight division from featherweight. His reward was a main event in hostile territory, because he’ll next take on France’s Saint Denis in a fight with big stakes for the winner.

Before UFC Fight Night 243, however, the UFC has released the full fight video of Moicano vs. Turner, which can be viewed above.

FA Cup tie abandoned after Salford Lionesses goalkeeper suffers medical emergency

The Women’s FA Cup tie between Wythenshawe FC and Salford City Lionesses was abandoned after a player was involved in a medical emergency.

The second round qualifying tie – at Wythenshawe’s Hollyhedge Park ground – was stopped in the 34th minute after Salford goalkeeper Grace Pomfret went down off the ball in “very visible distress”.

The club said Pomfret was treated by medical staff and was conscious as she was helped from the pitch before paramedics took her to hospital.

“Grace is now in a stable condition and being looked after in hospital, and has our full support and best wishes in her recovery,” the club posted on X.

The cause of Pomfret’s collapse has not been specified but it was decided to abandon the match.

A new date for the tie has yet to be confirmed.

“At Salford, we know that the welfare of the people is the highest law and as a family of players and staff it was noted the environment was too upsetting to continue,” the club said., external

Watch UFC vet Damir Ismagulov score spectacular spinning kick knockout

Damir Ismagulov might not be far off from a UFC return.

The veteran lightweight closed the show in style on Saturday at Alash Pride 100 in Aktobe, Kazakhstan, delivering a spinning kick knockout that left opponent Oberdan Tenorio frighteningly still on the canvas.

Watch the highlight-reel KO below.

Tenorio appeared to bite hard on a fake before Ismagulov spun his hips and unleashed the powerful KO strike.

This was Ismagulov’s second win since parting ways with the UFC in 2023. Ismagulov (26-3) ended his UFC run with back-to-back losses to Grant Dawson and Arman Tsarukyan, which dropped his record with the promotion to 5-2.

He began his UFC career with five consecutive victories, including decision nods over Guram Kutateladze, Thiago Moises, and Joel Alvarez. The 33-year-old scored the 13th knockout win of his career and his first since June 2018.

Tenorio (36-16-1) suffered his third loss in his past four fights. The Brazilian veteran stepped in on short notice for former UFC fighter Adriano Martins, who withdrew for undisclosed reasons.

Manchester City 2-2 Arsenal: Pep Guardiola on Rodri injury

Mikel Arteta’s side conceded just 29 goals in the Premier League last season and the Gunners pride themselves on their wall at the back.

With Leandro Trossard shown a second yellow card just before half-time, Arsenal set out to defend their 2-1 lead with everything they had in the second period.

“The space is not there in the team, they equalise the team. Kova [Kovacic] and Ruben [Dias] is destined for the shot,” said Guardiola.

“With Rodri it may have been different or maybe I put Ruben on the right. That’s why I delayed the sub for Kyle [Walker], but Kyle has a really good shot and crosses.

“Grealish created space. Raya made two, three or four saves [and] the second ball was not with us. It’s difficult.

“Congratulations to Arsenal, to be so strong mentally to block, it’s not easy but at the same time we were not easy to do it.”
